Probably not the most well received post but here goes.  I've just done a clean install of XP on my desktop.  The computer has more than the minimum requriements.  I'd been using IS 2007 an it was slow before but I attributed at least part of that to all the junk I had loaded.

I've run registry cleaner after each program I installed and checked the start up files for anything any new program has added and either disabled it or removed it.  I restalled IS 2007 and I'm not going to complain that the comptuer is slow as that's a subjective term.  Let me say that now that the PC has 2007 on it, I find the performance unacceptable.

I've e-mailed Norton as asked them if I could revert back to IS 2005, which was pre installed on the PC and use my current subscription against that product.  They said yes but I need to reinstall the 60 day trial, then let them know and they will give me the actiavtion code.  Trouble is it's buried inside the HP recovery disks and according to their tech support, I can't strip out just one program and install it. I have to install the whole recovery.   If I had wanted to do that, I would have just used the recovery disks but I wanted a clean install of XP so I bought a new copy.

So, here's my question.  Does any one know where I can get a legal copy of the trial 60 program of Norton Internet Security?

Thanks for the info.  I've found it on Amazon for $4.95.  If I can't make that work, I may try 2008.  I've also sent a note to HP about the disk and the way it works.  I'm sure they can come up with a solution if they try.

hi CCS - before you go back to 05, it's worth a shot to determine if 08 would reduce the burden enough to satisfy your need. i found that the load was lighter with a 08 than 07, and you are entitled to it as a 07 customer with a valid subscription. here's a link. if that doesn't work, i sadly know of no legit site to download 05 from, but perhaps someone from SYMC knows of a location.
