I remember the situation that occurred when an update to NIS 2009 was issued via LiveUpdate but it wqas resolved by a later hotfix.
The thread reminds me that your versions is way out of date as you can see with the version number in the Subject of the thread above.
Is your subscription to NIS 2009 still valid with unexpired days? If so you are entitled to a free upgrade to NIS 2010 for the remainder of your subscription just by downloading.
To do this it would be best to completely remove NIS 2009 -- you have not said what happened when you tried to run the Norton Removal Tool and "it did not work". Can you please explain a bit more.
Do you know how to boot your computer into Safe Mode?
Let's get all the facts together and then you can get on with downloading the current Norton Removal Tool and the NIS 2010 from locations we can give you.
I may not be around much longer tonight since I have some other work to do on my own PC .....
Now that you are updated to 2010, boot into safe mode, right click on the Norton icon and run a full system scan. Then reboot back into normal mode and let us know if it found any problems, and if it is now working correctly for you.
1.Right click on Desktop > click Properties 2.Select the Settings tab, and then click on the Advanced button. 3.On the Troubleshoot tab, Reduce the hardware acceleration slider to left by two or three notches 4.Restart the computer
Maybe this will help you guys. Before I get the error message i can click norton but after a few mins I get the message. It says attention and i click Fix now and i get e-mail in e-mail out and quick scan and with its done all 3 of them says not fix and when it get to the quick scan it doesn't scan no files then it goes away
1. Click Start > Run and type services.msc 2. Locate the Norton AntiVirus or Norton Internet Security service 3. Right-click and select Properties 4. On the Recover tab, select "Restart the Service" for First failure, Second failure, and Subsequent failures. 5. Set "Reset fail count after" to 1. 6. Set "Restart service after" to 0. 7. Click OK.
The next thing we can try is to create a new user account with administrator privilege and then give permission to the registry keys. You can install the Norton 2010 product in the new user account.
You need to run the Norton Removal Tool first. Then create a new user account and give permission. You can find the steps in the following document:
You need to try only the first and second step. Please take a backup of your registry before trying these steps. If you are not familiar in editing the registry, I advice not to try this.
After you give the permission, install the Norton 2010 product in the newly created account.
The 17.5 announcement from Tim indicates that there is a fix for the CcSvcHst.exe crash. Hopefully this will resolve your issue. Once this patch is fully released, Symantec will update the download short urls with the 17.5 patch. Download and install the Norton 2010 product at that time.
