Norton 2009 is much slower on Vista x64 startup after being FAST (also after defrag)

Hi!  I recently repartitioned my drives so I gave my C:\ drive with Vista x64 and Norton 2009 40GB of room, and defragmented everything including system files using Perfectdisk10.  Now the computer starts about 5 seconds faster from power on (was 50 seconds, now 45 from power on to the Windows desktop) but Norton 2009 now takes 1 min 50 seconds from the moment the Vista desktop is on, up from 10 seconds or so.  Ouch!

Incidentally, I never liked that it Windows checked for the network and Internet connection about one second BEFORE Norton 2009 loaded, meaning there was a brief window of time without the firewall. That was bad enough.  Now I'm unplugging and replugging during setup to avoid the nearly two minutes without firewall protection.

Is there something I can do to make Norton load first and load fast again? Any tips? A part of the goal in repartitioning was so Vista wouldn't slow down by throwing system data all over the huge hard drive, but this is really slowing the startup before I can get to work.

Please help! Thanks!
