Norton 2009 Virus Defintions: Failed to Complete

This is the second time this has happened that the First Release of Norton 2009 Virus Definitions Failed to Complete the first time I Run Norton LiveUpdate.  I have just re-ran Norton LiveUpdate and the same thing happened.  I have re-ran Norton LiveUpdate for the third time and got Error Code: Error: "Norton LiveUpdate was unable to install an update" (8920,212)

16.1.0.33

Windows' X.P., 03.

It is the same, like before? The problem with the Antiphishing?

No, just Norton 2009 Virus Definitions; no Issues with W.P.D.s as of yet.

Finally Installed after about five times of Running Norton LiveUpdate; it finally seemed to Download Files.

Would like symantec to Comment on this.

By me it was strange too (no update since 17 houres!, and the pc was up since 1,5 houres :S)… It downloaded a package about 35MB… And only VirusDefs… I think something just wen wrong an they solved it know…

16.1.0.33 Virus Definitions keep Failing; when I click Tech Support and the screen Loads Up with the suggestion and I re-run Norton LiveUpdate, Norton 2009 Virus Definitions installs!  Any suggestions on how to Fix this?

1. Click Start.
2. Click Run.
3. In the Run dialogue box, type services.msc and click OK.
4. In the services window, under the name column, find Norton Internet Security or Norton Antivirus service.
5. Restart the service.
6. Run LiveUpdate.

Same problem here. Restarting services doesn't fix the problem.

Do you want me to do this just now, or next time Norton AntiVirus 2009 Virus Definitions Fail?  And should this Fix the Issue Completely, or is this a Temp. Fix?

I think this was just fixed about 45 seconds ago.  It must have been a file structure error.

By me the WebProtectionDefs failing again.....

I deleted the whole directory for that, and redownloaded the full package. which is installed successfully, but it download a 30-40k file (update for the webdefs) which is failing all the time.....

I think we get again the problem like in 16.0......

You can try this the next time when it fails. I cannot say that it is a permanent fix, I have seen these steps resolving the 8920,212 issue a few times.

Also have you gone through the document 8920,212 ?

Ok guy's...I've got the same prob first with Anti Virus Definitions about half an hour - there was this not proper - but the Virus defs are working right now.

But now are the next thing the Web Protection Phishing Sites, that doesn't work.

I#ve got Norton about a month and hand't only one time trouble with it - but what is that ?

Maybe i should just wait and drink a cup of tea ? Or what?

Excuse my bad english - just look to my member's name und you know why :D

Edit

I've gone through the document, posted above - solved nothing.

This is the exact same Issue I am having with Flash Player 10 "installing" and with W.P.D.s Failing also.  What is going on?!

The tip with the services.msc posted above, doesn't helped here. I think, it's a central error, if so much customers are in trouble..right ?

Well, we are all humans and can make a wrong thing.

And i don't think that phishing protections are so much important than virus defs. :)

I found a way to get the updates:

1. Turn off tamper protection

2. go to the folder: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Norton\{0C55C096-0F1D-4F28-AAA2-85EF591126E7}\Norton\Lue\Downloads

3. delete all the files in it

4. run LU

5. turn tamper back

6. smile and be happy :D :D :D

Hi All

Just logged out, went out of the net, tried the liveupdate and all worked??Why was flashplayer 10 downloaded???and where was it sent to?

Worked correctly. Thank you very much PapauZ - I love the Norton Community :>

Greetings from germany to all helpful members !

EDIT:

@mo: The thing with the flash player...yes, i have wondered myself, too. Obviously i've got flash already installed, it downloaded it another time - well...
