Just ran Norton LiveUpdate and the Phishing Protection seems to be Fixed.
^ Dito. I did it exactly, like PapauZ had described it - and it solved my problem. The puls updates are running right now, too (just updated 8 sec. ago)

I didn't do what PapauZ suggested - or anyone suggested, for that matter - and just ran Norton LiveUpdate and it installed.
Hi,
After reading the thread & trying the updates myself, I was having the same failed update problem. I just run it again, & all is back to normal now.

Maybe the file was just corrupted symantec uploaded to the update servers, and after they got some emails (or read this topic :D) just updated the file, and everyone gets now the good one....

To be honest, I don't think it was Downloading anything, which is why it Failed.
But yeah, it's Fixed - for now. :D
Guys, we've been here before. Sometimes the updates don't take because they are duplicates or they done pass a parity check ... or whatever. When LU rejects an update, it doesn't mean anything is wrong with our computer. I am concerned that with all these fixes, you will break something.
Me, I waited on three machines. And, sure enough, the updates started taking after a time.
16.1.0.33 Norton 2009 Virus Definitions keep Failing. Any ideas on how to Fix this? And I know about Intelligent Updater, but I want to get this Fixed for myself and any other Users that may be getting this but are un-aware of this.
Hey Floating_Red....I have just started a thread with this same issue... A fewminutes ago...things turn bad..The NAV Defs cannot be installed...

Hello, TrDo,
This has been going on for quite some time now; first it was W.P.D.s, and now it seems to happen with Virus Definitions now.
I would try running Norton LiveUpdate now and see if that Fixes it; let me know.
It's OK now for me...I think you should be fine as well...It installed two updates, one of which was Antivirus Def....
How is yours?
Edit: I have also just installed aWeb Protection Def, as well.

I installed mine before I Posted my Last Message. How long had you been trying to Install?
Obviously still Issues going on with Norton LiveUpdate still.
I have been trying for the last 30-35 min...
And although they install, it takes a bit longer..as a process, than it used to do...Maybe it's just my idea..
Yes, still issues...
I first noticed the fix now sign coming up yesterday and since then I have not been able to download any updates… it LU runs and then tells me all is ok no need to install or do anything else but the problem is not fixed… say it aint so that this is happening again… does symantec put a date of expiration on these fixes or something…!!! I have tried most of the suggestions here without any luck… the only one I have not tried is the turn off tamper one… how does one turn off the tamper?? thanks for any info…

The Thread is dealing with Virus Definitions, so it might be an idea to start your own Thread on this for better exposure. Thanks!
Hi:
Can not get Live Update to install all updates. Keeps showing error 8920,212 for several updates. Also see that I am not running version 16.1.0.33 but can not find a place to get the latest version. Chat Support to totally useless after you wait for 14 people in que. They really need to get their Chat Support up to par on what is wrong with 2009 Internet Security..sorry for the rant.
Hi knoxradgrp,
To get the latest version check this:
http://www.symantecstore.com/dr/v2/ec_main.entry25?page=TrialwareEU2&client=Symantec&sid=27684, and then if you have your reg no., enter it to make this trial version a subscribed version.
TrDo.
A few times this happened, I managed to get around it by simply disabling the Norton Product Tamper Protection, going to the definitions folder: In Vista it is
C:\ProgramData\Norton\{0C55C096-0F1D-4F28-AAA2-85EF591126E7}\Norton\Definitions\VirusDefs
in XP it is
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Norton\{0C55C096-0F1D-4F28-AA2-85EF591126E7}\Norton\Definitions\VirusDefs,
once there I get inside the folder(s) with numbers in the name (for example. today it's 20081206.020), select all files and delete them. Then I delete the number-named folder itself.
I then click Live Update, and I think it works every time, it downloads the defs anew and installs them correctly.
After that, I re-enable Norton Product Tamper Protection.
Praise the computer gods. Got the latest version and deleted the virus definitions as instructed. Ran Live Update 4 times before all the updates got installed. Thanks for the help. Symantec needs to hire some of you in their Live Chat Room. Now to get this done on the other 4 computers in our office with same problem. You guys/gals are great!
