Norton 2011, failure to autheticate - does not recognize internet connection

Aloha.

 

I purchased NAV 2011 online and downloaded the software. I did a full scan, left the house, came back when it had finished and when the program attempted to authenticate my account it could not get a signal from my internet to connect. My internet itself is fine and running properly. I am unsure as exactly how to make NAV go away for any extended period of time so I've had to just keep reinstalling and uninstalling to jump back and forth onto the internet as I search for some solution. I'm running Windows Vista 64. I tried disabling the firewall. That didn't help. Not sure how to completely disable Microsoft Security Essentials, which is currently running. I've had previous versions of NAV installed on my computer. I used the removal tool as well the NPE and should not have any trace of them.

 

Any help in identifying my problem is appreciated.
