Norton 2014 NIS now needs to be fixed all of the time?

Hey guys and girls, I've searched for it but couldn't come up with anything but basically my Norton 2014 NIS now has to be fixed once or twice a week.  The green checkmark in the icon bar will turn to an orange exclaimation mark and when I open it, hit fix, it scans and then everything is good until the next time it does it.

It's almost like it isn't scanning anymore in the background and makes the program think that it hasn't run a scan in a while.  I'm pretty sure that the option to run scans in the background or during idle is on.

This might not be a huge deal but it's just aggrevating to have to fix it manually when the program didn't use to do this?

Any help would be appreciative, Thanks.

Hi,

First thing I suggest is to verify your system clock time, time zone and date are correct and then go thru your NIS Settings and select Default All for each setting Tab wihtin NIS.

Let us know what you got.

Thanks for the feedback guys, I'll default the settings back and see what happens and hopefully it will fix my issues.  I'll report back my findings.  If something changed though, it's like it changed on its own because I haven't changed any settings on this computer and it seems like it did this on my htpc also but I am unable to check it at the moment because it is down.

Thanks

Hi onebadsob3,
Sometimes even if you revert your settings to default and doesnt update or keep the systen in idle mode once in a week(min of 5 consecutive days), the problem fix now can occur.

FYI: The Norton product is set to update or run quick scan atleast once in every 5 days. When a live update is performed, an automatic quick scan is triggered.
Hope it helps…

Hi, onebadsob3. Have you rebooted and run Autofix via the Support/Get Support tab in the UI to see if that fixes anything ?

If none of the previous suggestions work, you may wish to try the Norton Remove and Reinstall Tool, which will replace your current version with a clean one.

The link is here...http://www.norton.com/nrnr

If you use this, please run Live Updates after, until no more are found.

Also be aware that it will remove any other Norton products you may have, and they will need to be reinstalled manually.

I appreciate all of the suggestions.  I have not rebooted and tried to do the autofix yet to see if anything changes as I wanted to wait and see what happens with the status of the program.

Everything was good until I just go on the computer this morning and I noticed that the Norton icon was orange with the exclamation again.

The computer has plenty of time to idle, the screen saver comes on after ten minutes I think and then the screen shuts off after 30 minutes.  I checked just now and it said that live update had ran 10 minutes ago before starting this so that seems to be working.  The computer gets used for a while and then will sit for a while untouched so I know it should have time to scan in the back ground.  My computer has been used the same way for years and all of the other previous Norton NIS have worked fine.  I have even moved the mouse and still see the little box in the background saying it is scanning in the back ground but I never see that anymore with 2014.

Guess it's time to run autofix or even use the removal tool and start over.  Just hoping it was a setting that maybe was changed or a registry screwed up.

Whatever comes up, I'll report back, but I'll keep checking back to see if maybe there is something else I might could try.

Thanks,

Charlie

Just an update,

I rebooted and ran the autofix and it says that no issues were found with NIS.

Here is an issues though I know I have with my computer.  The system time is correct, but everytime I turn my system on, after a few minutes I will have a window pop up that says "Windows Time has stopped working" and I don't really understand how or why that happens but I have never found a solution for it online or maybe I am not looking in the right spot.

This has been going on for a while, even with the 2013 NIS installed and maybe before but I never had any issues with it quick scanning before.

As I asked here:

http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-Internet-Security-Norton/Norton-2014-NIS-now-needs-to-be-fixed-all-of-the-time/m-p/1127290/highlight/true#M257938

Please make sure your date, time zone and daylight savings time setting (if you have that where ever you are located) are correct.

Check the Internet Tab in Date and Time and see when it was last synchronized.

Ok,

I wanted to give it some time and I thought it was not fixed but this proves my point.  I've checked my date and time settings and they did say they were correct.

I was gone for two weeks and the computer has been up and running before and while I was gone and the Norton box has the red X in it at the bottom of the screen.  I have to hit the FIX NOW button to make it work correctly again.  Just don't understand this issue as it happens on my computer and my uncles also I believe but haven't been there to check recently.  I've got 2013 on my HTPC where I was at for 2 weeks and you can sit there and see the box pop up and say it is scanning in the background but I never see it say that on this computer.

Is there anything else to check.  Maybe I need to do a full uninstall and then startover and see if that helps?

Hi,
Do you encounter the “Windows Time has stopped working” problem still now?

No, the windows time error only will happen when you restart the computer most of the time.  I synchronized the windows time though when the computer was first restarted and it has been running fine.

The computer has been on for basically 30 days now and when I just got on it this morning, it had the red exclamation point in the tray and I'm having the to fix it again.  I check the windows time though under date and time settings and it it had synchronized earlier this morning so that seems to be working properly.

See of Windows Event Viewer gives more information on any difference in the system clock before the sync this morning. The Norton condition may have been set before the Time sync if the time were out by a large amount.

Hi, Charlie. You may want to synchronise your computer with time.nis.gov, rather than Windows time.

I seem to remember reading that the gov ones are inclined to be more accurate.
