Basically I was doing a full scan, and norton completely stopped for no reason. I had to then manually restart norton and it started again, but the scan just completely disappeared and i had to start it again, and it was using alot of high cpu and disk usage. I looked into event viewer and it stated "The Norton Security with Backup service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this 1 time(s). The following corrective action will be taken in 120000 milliseconds: Restart the service." and before you ask i dont have any viruses or any spyware or malware on my computer that could cause this. I have attached pictures so you can see what i mean. This product seems very buggy!
Ryanm353:I updated the product, restarted and proceeded to do a full system scan. Norton is still using high disk usage, and sometimes still CPU with it being over 40% just by norton alone.
That sounds normal. Scanning has always been resource intensive - this is nothing new. Scanning means checking all files on the disk. That means a lot of disk activity and a lot of CPU usage. While the extremely high resource usage of 22.7 may have been unintended, all versions of Norton that I can remember used a substantial amount of system resources during scans, and your current numbers seem to be in line with my experience over the years.
@Ryanm353, sorry for the questions, but I need some clarification.
- What is happening during these screenshots? A Full System Scan?
- And if it is a scan, do you consider ~40% to be high CPU usage during a full system scan?
- Are the issues reported in your initial post resolved?
Hi there,
I updated the product, restarted and proceeded to do a full system scan. Norton is still using high disk usage, and sometimes still CPU with it being over 40% just by norton alone. See attached;
We've released an Auto-Protect HotFix that includes a fix for high CPU/Disk usage. I recommend that you run LiveUpdate and restart your system as prompted for the hotfix to be properly installed. Once installed, please let us know if you see issues with high CPU/Disk usage. Thanks.
Hi @Ryanm353,
