Norton 22.9.3.13 does not complete scan

On one of my computers running Win10 Norton Security 22.9.3.13 does not complete a full system scan. It hangs after several hours. The 'pause' and 'cancel' buttons don't work. I cannot restart a new scan. I have to reboot twice before I can start a new scan. I have reloaded Norton but it did not make a difference.
