Norton 360 21.1.0.18 live update error 8920, 208

After having uninstalled and re-installed N360 21.1.0.18 a couple of times already, I am getting slightly frustrated with continuously running into error 8920, 208 in Live Update. This happens on Windows 8.1 Pro with Mediacenter x64.

A "solution" that calls for un-installing, and than re-installing a complete software suite for a failing component is ridiculous.

What can be done about this?

Hi,

This could be a problem with the Live Update servers.  I've had a few updates fail lately, but they will eventually come through.

Can you wait an hour or so and try manually running Live Update again?

I’ve done that over days, so no problem with the servers. Also, it keeps popping up even after doing the un-install, re-install as suggested by Symantec. This is a fault in Live Update itself, possible in connection with Windows 8.1.

That doesn't sound good.

I hate to ask, but when you uninstalled did you use the Norton Removal Tool before reinstalling?

I did what the Symantec site told me to do in this case. Used the norton removal tool.

But it just keeps returning, the problem in liveupdate, error 8920, 208

Have you ever had any other Security programs on your computer?  If yes, How was it removed?

Can you try this;

Reset Winsock (In cmd with Admin Rights-> Type netsh winsock reset) -->Restart PC

Try running Live Update again.

I have the same problem, & level 2 has not been able to solve the issue.

I have only used Norton 360 for years, no other programs like that.

I tried what you suggested, didn't solve it.

It's only affecting the Norton Web Protection Definitions and Norton Web Protection Definitions (Hub) part of the updates. Other updates are installed correctly.

Hi guys,

I have asked for some assistance from above with your issue.  Hopefully you will hear something next week.

The problem persists, any word on a solution or fix, patch? Anything?

i experienced the error today... twice in a row -- did the re-install - ran full virus check - got message again - eaited for vus check to complete, re-did re-install - ran full virus check again--- no problem so far...

Hi uli, and welcome. Often a reinstall will *repair* the issue. If it re-occurs, please let us know...

This message has been moved to a thread of its own.

I've done a re-install, again, and now the error message, as before, has gone.

It's just that I already have done re-installs to get rid of this error, and after a while, it re-appears.

I hope this time it stays away but previous experience doesn't give much confidence.

And the error is back again... :smileymad:

FWIW, my install just came up with error 8920, and 223. I had the same situation, a week ago.

Waited for a while previously, and success that time.  I'll try again, later. Seems like a server problem, again.
