Issue abstract: Norton updated to 24.12.9725 (build 24.12.9725.902) and Outlook stopped being able to download email.

Detailed description: Today Norton 360 updated to 24.12.9725 (build 24.12.9725.902) and Outlook is no longer able to download messages (emails). I call tech support and he ended up removing Norton and reinstalling it. That fixed the problem for about 10 minutes. Then Outlook went back to not being able to download emails. The only thing I changed was I shut off the Cloud update (I don’t like or use any cloud services, I don’t need or want any of my personal files in the cloud). Could that be causing the problem to be happening again? Right now I have been on hold waiting for Tech Support again for over 1 hour.

Product & version number: Norton 360 version: 24.12.9725 (build 24.12.9725.902)

OS details: Windows 10 Pro 64 bit

What is the error message you are seeing? from Outlook: 'jb

xxxxxx@gmail.com - Receiving’ reported error (0x800CCC1A) : ‘Your server does not support the connection encryption type you have specified. Try changing the encryption method. Contact your mail server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP) for additional assistance.’

If you have any supporting screenshots, please add them: see picture

I just did what the tech support guy did and again Uninstalled Norton and everything worked. I re-installed Norton this time with cloud back up disabled and the problem is back again. So that confirms again that Norton is causing the problem.

Why is Norton blocking Outlook from sending/receiving emails???

I also went into Settings> App Permissions and made Outlook “allow” for the 3 options.

That did nothing.

I figured it out, I dont know why Norton Tech Support couldnt figure this out. I told the guy there has to be a setting stopping Outlook from sending/receiving emails.

SECURITY > ADVANCED SETTINGS > Shut off Email Protection.

Outlook now works.

Isn’t email protection one of the promoted features that we’ve had for decades? Did they actually break it in the new release??
