Norton 360 4.0 Installs in strange language

8824i1DFA8C17FEF89310When I download the installer and run it, the message font looks like some type of cyrillic language.  The box titles are in English, and the download language setting in the address bar is English.  What gives? I'm not about to download and install something that critical if it's been hacked.

HI Phillip1955

Welcome to the Norton Community Forums

You can download your version of Norton 360 V4 from one of these links

Norton 360 v4 Standard: www.norton.com/n360s_4

Norton 360 v4 Premier: www.norton.com/n360p_4

Hi Phillip1955,

I think that language is Greek :-) In the meantime, please follow mdturner's instructions and download the English version of Norton 360.

This happened to me yesterday as well. The same language was displayed (Hebrew? Arabic?). I had just signed up for the Norton 360 v4 trial. Manually downloading the English version provided by a chat representative worked for me.

I think someone from Symantec needs to fix which downloader is being linked to for U.S. 360 trials.

The NUC (Norton Update Center) has distributed the wrong language versions in the past, and now it seems to be happening again, since other customers upgrading via the NUC have mentioned this issue during the past days.

Thank you, mdturner.  I downloaded the file without a hitch.  I think I found what MIGHT be the cause of the problem - I recently installed some complimentary Hypatia sans fonts from Adobe and now find that some Word docs have garbage.   At any rate, the direct download works great!

HI Phillip1955

Good to hear you now have the correct download. Yaso_Kuuhl has reported the issue with incorrent language versions being received so, hopefully, Symantec personnel can identify and correct any issues soon.

Well, according to the Symantec personnel, this kind of glitch can occur if you used a different-language key to activate the Norton product installed on your computer (e.g. if you used a product key from a Greek Norton to activate your English Norton - which would then result in your getting the Greek language version when upgrading via the NUC).

Hello

Phillippe's looks odd though still since it seems to be a combination of English and Greek.

I didn't use any language other than English.  I think it has to do with the fonts I downloaded because some of the Word documents have been corrupted. Looks like it's time to scrub the hard drive and start over!

Hello Phillip1955,

Where did you purchase your current subscription? This will help us narrow down the cause.

Hello Phillip

Are you using Win 7? I remember another thread here where someone had downloaded fonts and his office got messed up. I think I found that this seems to be a common problem in Win 7 and the way it handles fonts.

Tim, Floplot - I purchased through my Symantec online account.  I had downloaded and installed a trial version of 360 4.0 and then purchased the 3-computer license.  This is not the computer I originally installed the trial version on, and it is in fact running Win 7. One thing I happened to think of - on this particular computer I'm running the MS Security Essentials free AV software.  I was going to remove that after I installed 360, but now I'm thinking I'll do that first.  If you'd like I will wait for your advice to troubleshoot this problem, since you're probably as curious as I to figure out the cause. Thanks for your help, guys.

Hello Phillip

Having MS Security Essentials free Antivirus program would definitely cause a problem when installing N360. You definitely need to uninstall the Security Essential program and with a removal tool if there is one. You will probably need to remove N360 also since you may not have got a clean install of it with the other security program running.. I would say and wait to see if perhaps Tim might want some further information from you.
