I can't stop it, close it, or finish it.
I am having the same problem.
I have Norton 360 installed and my subscription is expiring. I bought a new copy to save money.
Should I uninstall my existing Norton 360 5.0?
Also... I have a regular ole PC running XP.
I saw nothing in the instructions that said I should remove my existing Norton 360 5.0....
Hi apack,
-->If you purchase the same Norton 360 version 5.0, you dont have to reinstall the product. To check for the latest version,Open Norton 360 program--> go to support menu --> Click on [Check new version].
--> To activate your new Norton 360 version 5.0, open the program in the desktop, right next to the days displaying in your program you can see RENEW. Just click on it and it will ask you to enter the product key, where you purchased with the CD Version. Enter the product key and click on next - It will be activated with new subscription days......
--> Its because you purchased new product and activating again, you cant add the existing subscription days to the new product activation. You can contact the chat support team to resolve this issue. Because, from many users, I heard chat support is the quickest way to resolve this issue. use this link for chat support : http://www.norton.com/chat
Let me know, If you have any issues!!!!!
Having the same issue. running XP Pro. Let it run for 12 hours, thought it was scanning. I have a 1tb Seagate storage so it can take some time. I ended up turning the computer off because nothing I did would stop it; even ending the process. I had 4.0 and have historically just been able to install over the previous version, but no luck this time.
Any easy answers?
Hi,
Inorder to fix the issue, please remove the old product from the computer and then reinstall the new product.
When you remove the existing product, make sure that you select the option "I plan to reinstall my Norton product in future...."
Regards,
Jithin
I'll give it a try; thanks.
I am having the same exact issue, on a brand new computer that hasent had any AV products installed yet. Tried it in both dvd drives, just stays initalizing forever. I have tried making a brand new administrator account as well, with all non-essentials set to not boot in msconfig, still initalizing forever.
Also, i am using windows 7, 64 bit.

Let us know how it goes
Seems kind of an odd thing to do, seeing as i dont have norton or any of their products installed at the time, disk doesnt even get me to the installation menu, just initalizing as soon as its put in.
It worked fine on my laptop that had a previous version, but on this new just assembled computer (brand new hard drive as well), it does not.
I think i might just see if i can get the version from the norton account>my product page and see if downloading it from there will work. My internet has been rather spotty, which is why i wanted to use the disk.
