<< How do you get to Auto protect ..... sorry I do not use Norton so not so clued up on it. >>

Right mouse click on the System Bar icon and select Disable AntiVirus Autoprotect  -- you can also disable the Smart Firewall there but as a general principle it might be a good idea not to change two variables at the same time and you did find that uninstalling Norton did not change the situation -- but note that you may still have a VISTA Firewall active if it was not disabled by installing Norton; I don't think it gets automatically turned back on if you remove Norton but I'm not sure about that.

<< .... two computers can print so somewhere settings have gone haywire. >>

A lot of the HP troubleshooting is precisely concerned with getting the settings right.

Well there are 2 computers that do not print wirelessly, I suppose they would both print via usb but only tested one via usb ...... defeats the whole point of wireless hey!

Yes iirc when uninstalling Norton it put Vista firewall back on as it said it would but obviously the built in firewall did not auto configure the printer.

Also is it a bad idea to disable the auto protect feature?

thanks, will relook at the pointers you gave, thanks again Hugh as you have been a real help ;-)

Hi there,

I have problems with printing on a HP C7280 printer with Norton 360, 1 desktop computer and x3 laptop  in total all with vista.

2 of these printers can print with the HP software installed and Nortn 360, 2 can not print from the HP printer.

What could cause this problem? I have tried uninstalling and putting the HP software back on but to no avail.

Could this be a problem with setting in the Norton 360 firewall?

Do I need to enable print sharing on each computer even though the printer is wireless?

any help would be appreciated as it is driving me mad, if it is the setting in the firewall and I need to have certain things then I can check this out.

thanks Jay

Don't disable AutoProtect for longer than you may need to see if it solves the uninstall  problem and set up the Wireless Networking since it is a major protection against malware attacking system files including Norton itself.
