For the past year approximately one month after installing Norton (earlier 360, now Norton security) disc usage goes to 100% and I am unable to launch programs. I have determined Norton appears to be the problem because (1) uninstalling and reinstalling Norton makes the problem go away; (2) pausing Norton makes the problem go away and it reappears as soon as Norton resumes; (3) rebooting makes the problem go away for 20 minutes (the time set for automatic Norton process to resume); (4) during this problem, Norton rises to the top of the Task manager and shows it is accessing the disc at 4.1 m/s; (5) The problem only occurs at 1-month intervals. I have 2.5 million files on my computer. I believe that Norton automatically runs a full scan after a month has passed and that there is no way to stop this from happening. Running a full scan takes much more than a day on my computer, so I do not do that. I have contacted Norton support, spoken to a supervisor, had an error report taken, and spoken to Norton on Facebook. I have received neither confirmation nor denial that my theory is correct or that an automatic full scan is scheduled for one month after installation. I noted that other threads discussing this topic did not refer to the problem in the same way that I have and that those threads were locked. I think Norton added this automatic full scan about one year ago. Can anyone confirm or refute my thesis?
