Norton 360 automatically opens start site after Windows 11 system startup since version 26.6

And this can cause users to disable on a temporary basis causing vulnerable conditions. Just a response
about looking into the issue can make the difference for customers and build lost trust. :frowning:

Norton is antivirus software, and I have a subscription, yet I’m receiving a pop-up virus that automatically launches a menu screen from Norton.

It’s abnormal for antivirus software to generate a virus!

True-I am just saying it could make users turn Norton off so it does not update definitions and cause that screen pop. Yes, its definitely not a virus. It just seems like some kind of error in Norton’s process giving the screen activity.. I really hope they fix this soon. And oddly enough, it just hit. The last few nights, 9:52PM, today-just now, 9:55PM.

They have a bad habit of sending this exact copy and pasted PM on issues we have no hope of reproducing on our own. I’ve received it at least twice and ignored it each time because how in the hell am I s’posed to reproduce something when I don’t even know how it happened in the first place?

Actually started putting notes on recent reports that I can’t reproduce a particular issue on my own and to not be PM’d about it. It’s been working, so far.

This many people having this exact issue and not much else in common since it’s spread across OS versions and I doubt we all have the exact same configurations. It’s not a problem with individual PCs. It’s something in the application that either wasn’t there before that particular update or something that was triggered by something in that particular update.

It’s on their end, not ours, and it’s supreme laziness to keep blaming PCs.

I remember this bug started occurring immediately after patch 26.6 was applied, and it’s been happening every day since.

Norton developers really need to fix this bug.

Otherwise, many Norton users will cancel their subscriptions.

I have been using Symantec/Norton AV products since 2002. Situations like the curent one have existed all the way through the last twenty-five years. Norton always deny that a problem exists with their application. Advising a complete re-installation of the Windows OS when customers begin complaining has always been their approach to a recommended solution. There was once a minor problem where the Norton icon in the system tray would appear in duplicate. Those of us who complained were told to reinstall Windows. Can you believe it? After six months they finally fixed the problem. It’s this attitude they have that really gets to people.

In 2016 I bought a new PC. It had an AV app trial version installed - Bullguard. I was very impressed with this product and so relieved to be free of Norton at last! I kept subscribing each year until finally, in 2022, Bullguard was discontinued. It (and its paying customer base) had been acquired by Norton. Then Norton ditched Bullguard, after collecting all the new subscriptions, and it was replaced by the Norton product.

Like a number of people on this forum, I’m wondering why I’m still using this Norton product, and whether it’s perhaps time to change.

Same problem for me, on 3 laptops (1 brand new windows 11 home, 1 Windows 11 pro, 1 old windows) since the last updates.
Can you tell me how to officially add my name to this bug description and fix request ? I am new here

Maybe the Norton Community process should require a visible Norton position or status rating on published threads—particularly when a thread generates significant consumer engagement.

This has to be fixed, not going to install the new version until it is fixed. Not taking any chances on something voluntarily breaking my system. Live update works in the background. I can tell by a log that generates and live update on the UI. That’s going to have to work for me at this time until they fix this. Sending good vibes to all with the issues.

I’m no pro on this-but very curious. From what I understand, a log may not really tell them much. The logs seem to indicate that the Norton process is working as it should. What I’m curious about—and what seems like it should be a fairly simple thing for Norton to determine—is what they actually see on their backend in terms of processing and actions each day, especially when definitions are being sent out globally. Is it possible for Norton to know when these pop-ups are being initiated on users’ systems? We’re all just a very small subset of many, many Norton users, so are we really the only ones experiencing these pop-ups, or is this happening to a much larger number of users? I have a feeling Norton probably knows what’s going on and that this may be part of some initiative or change they’re working on. I just wish they would be upfront with us and let us know.

Hi.

So, the error didn’t appear today. Let’s see how it is tomorrow. Whether it was just a coincidence today, or whether the error is now fixed.

Regards

Wow..I was thinking same thing. For me, I will know at 9:52PM east. So far..so good for me.

I was just about to post the same. The start screen did not popup at 2:30pm as it has done daily since updating to 26.8.11125 (build 26.8.11125.0). Granted, I was not in front of my computer at 2:30pm today. But when I returned at 3:00pm the start screen was not sitting front and center on my screen.

Hopefully I’ll see the same tomorrow.

Just happened to me for the umpteenth time tonight. My renewal comes up later this month, and if this isn’t fixed by then, bye-bye Norton!

It is ridiculous that things like this happen constantly, they never listen, and MAYBE fix them in a few MONTHS. Or not at all.

Not to mention the even more aggressive upselling and scare tactics, this program is nothing but scareware/bloat/bullshit at these days.

Switched to F-Secure. It is clean, just works, and they actually do something about errors.

Just out of curiousity … Does F-Secure try to sell extra un-needed add on security like Norton does?

fwiw ~ my understanding:
Norton released a backend fix for the Automatic UI Opening issue. Please run LiveUpdate and Restart the system to get the fix applied.

FWIW- I did not receive the pop-ups today, either - but am not holding my breath for a one-in-a-row occurrence.

If BJM is correct and it was a backend fix, I’m not sure a LiveUpdate or a system restart is truly necessary - at least I did not perform those steps (beyond it auto-updating itself, as normal) and the UI did not perform its’ daily nag.

Here’s hoping…

A full day, no pop ups for me. I do a full scan for updates each morning so maybe installed early yesterday. We will see what my other machines say.
