Hi everyone, I have received a warning telling me my backup has failed because I don’t have enough free space available. Now the little Norton icon has a big red x on it.My local disk c has 76gb but only 360mb is now available. Two weeks ago I had 50gb available.Where has it gone?I certainly have not used it.I would be grateful for any help with this.My computer knowledge is still in learner phase so please be gentle.
Thanks Papua Z,all backed up files have gone to disk c.In the files to restore it says there are 1941 files at 56GB.Does that mean that’s files that are already backed up?If so,why so much?Do I need to change the settings? In the files to backup there are 140 files at 4GB.The problem must be the files to restore at 56GB.Any advice?
You can only restore files that have been backed up. If you have 56GB of files to restore, then at some point, 56GB of files were backed up to C:\.
A crashed hard drive is one of the most common causes of data loss. If you are backing up your data from C:\, that data should be safe in the event C:\ crashes. However, if you are storing that backup set on C:\, it could be lost along with the rest of the hard drive.
You should configure N360 Backup to perform your back ups to some drive other than your C:\. This way, if the hard drive crashes, your data will be safe on the other location.
I recommend the following:
Go to your C:\ drive and look for a folder called N360_BACKUP. This is where all backed up files are stored. Consider deleting this folder. If you delete this folder, you will not be able to restore these specific files, but you will free up the disk space. Maintaining some free space on C:\ is very important for windows to operate properly, and you can re-protect yourself by running another backup operation.
Configure your backup set to store files on either Norton Online Storage, CDs/DVDs or another drive.
Carefully choose which types of files you wish to protect, so that your backup sets maintain an optimal size.
Run a new backup.
Good Luck!

Thanks Joel Followed your instructions and problem fixed.Backup now goes elsewhere and have freed up over 50GB.The N360 icon has a green tick again. Many thanks to you and Papua Z.

Hello Mhill777,
When this error occurs, is there a link displayed for you to follow? Also, have you restarted your system and tried again?
Please post back with your O.S version and what service pack is install and any other information you think is relevant.
Thanks, Dave.
The OS is Microsoft Windows XP Professional, service pack 3. There is no link or error code provided in the error message. It just says "The disk has failed. Replace disk and click OK to continue. Or click cancel". I have tried exiting and rebooting the system numerous times. I have even bought new DVDs to try. No success. I typically don't burn alot of CD/DVDs, but, disk player seems to function normally otherwise. Thanks!
