With Norton 360 backup how long are files retained within a backup? Are files retained in a backup set indefinitely, until the set is deleted or a new one created?

Yes we keep the files in the backup set on the selected media until that backup set is deleted. So even if you delete the file off your local system it will still live in your backup. You can also create new backup sets and leave the old ones alone so the creation process does not delete old sets.
