Norton 360 Backup files are taking up more space on my external hard drive then all the files on my C drive.
I have gone through and deleted files and folders in the backup via the UI and also using windows explorer.
Is there an a way to compact the back up files? Why do they take up so much space?
I don't want to deleted the complete backup set and start over.
C drive only has 239 GB of files and my back up file is 212 GB and I am only backup a small subset of files.
Hi Wimuggs.
I have to agree with Dick that the backup feature in N360 does not seem to be perfect. However I have to disagree with him in what he says about full backups and incrementals. I believe that the first time you run a N360 backup it does a full backup of the selected files/folders thereafter it tries to add an incremental backup of the changed/added files. However I and a number of others have found that for some reason it can do something different and add a new full backup on top of the old backup. This odd behavious increases the size of the backup file without increasing the amount of files that you can restore.
My solution is to have two backup sets prepared on my machine which I run when I think I have added sufficient files to make an incremental backup worth while. However if one of the backup files then starts to get unduly large I just use windows explorer to delete the whole backup file and start again, protected by the other backup set for the short period between deletion and the new full backup.
I hope the above makes sense and is of some help to you. If you have any further questions please feel free to come back. We are here to try and help.

I guess my only option is to delete my currenlty back up set and create a new one. I can't believe that a company like this could not come up with a better solution to product that is so widely used.
When I am in the Managed backup screen and select all files, it only has 61.9 GB and the space on the backup drive says the backup is using 1.1 TB.
Sorry you have had this problem Wimuggs.
Do let us know how you get on. If you create the new backup as soon as you create the space you should be at risk for a short time.
Good luck.
