Norton 360 backup to a network drive fails every time

I have a Dell Vostro 1500 laptop running Windows Vista Home Premium SP2 with Norton 360 V5.1.0.29

I also have a Belkin Wireless router that allows me to plug my Seagate 1.5TB external hard drive into it and make it a network drive.

Norton has no problem seeing the network drive and I set it as the destination, so far so good,

I started a backup manually today (cause scheduled ones do not work at all, an issue for another day).

Norton scanned my hard drive and found almost 49,000 files to be backed up and started to back them up and about an hour (not sure it may have been 45 minutes) into the backup I got the following message:

There is a backup problem. Make sure the destination drive or device is connected and try again. New files backed up 258.

I did not disconnect my network drive (why would I??) and the network did not go down during the backup. My Laptop and the wireless router are in the same room less then 4 feet away from each other so signal strength is also not a problem. I am also going to try the backup that came with the Seagate drive and the Belkin router but I like the way Norton stores the files better so I would like to get this solved if I can.

One last note. If I connect the Seagate drive directly to my laptop via the USB cable the Norton backup works just fine most of the time.

I just checked these and yes the laptop is plugged in.

Turn display off: never

Put computer to sleep: never

Wireless: Maximum Performance

Turn Hard Disk off: Never

USB Selective Suspend Setting: for plugged in is disabled

I have a screen saver set to come on after 6 minutes of idle time

I was playing Free Cell and minesweeper while the backup was running so it would not have gone to idle.

I do not know if the Seagate has any settings but if it is being used during a backup it would not have time to go to sleep (like I just heard it do after about 30 minutes of idle time).

Thank you for your quick response.

Couple suggestions.

In your network security map, on the left side try changing your wireless network to shared or full trust.

Then try the backup again.

If that doesn't help, try plugging the laptop into the router and see if it works through a wired connection.

If it works with a wired connection and with the local drive then it's got to be a wifi issue.

Or it could be the router doing its network scanning (is your router operating as a NAT?) to update the internal routing tables.

How long is the IP leases your router obtains / gives out?

I could not find the network security map.

I did change my network from public to private and I am going to try a backup now.
