Hi
Thank you for replying!
I am using 360 Vs 1.0 and am backing up to an external Seagate Hard Drive
I have tried to run the live update but I obtain a message it is running in a different process.
I have tried the Help and the automated service states I am missing a critical update for Transaction Security. However the srcipt message appears and it appears I am unable to access the update. I am not sure if this matter is rel;ated.
Please note this is the first time I have used the Back Up service on Norton 360
Thank you for advice to date
Hi
I'm seeking advice on the following issue. Perhaps someone could advise?
I'M currently backing up files and in the 'Current Activity' Window, the yellow bars give the appearance of movement. However, it states the system is storing a file in my backup ...a 1 page word 2007 document. The Current Activity screen has been stating its backing up the latter word file for over an hour. I have restarted this task on several occasions...same issue. The word document was the last document I modified. I would have thought I would have all files backed up. I ran the backup programme since last pm. I get the impression that the backup stopped. Any advices

If you are using Norton 360 1.0, better try to upgrade to latest version - Norton 360 3.0 and then check for this issue. If you have a current subscription to Norton 360, you can update to the latest version by downloading the update (Norton 360 v3 Standard ). When you install the update, it will remove your previous Norton 360 product and apply the subscription information to Norton 360 v3. You can continue using the new version by just renewing the subscription when the current subscription expires. Please proceed with updatig your Norton 360 to latest version and let us know how it goes. You can use the same product key of Norton 360 1.0 for activation of Norton 360 3.0. After that, check for the backup issue.

HI fimpel
I used an Atari in my early days and got a great deal of pleasure from it. However, it sounds as though your experience with your Norton 360 has not been as pleasurable as it was with your ZX Spectrum. We may be able to assist you with your issue with backups. Could you perhaps let us know what the issue is that is giving you problems.
Thanks
Can anyone please advise what directory or the filename is for BACKUP. I'm trying to copy files to laptop that were on my desktop.
Thanks in advance!
Kavitha,
Can i take this one step further.
For info, I have two external hard drives that i use to store all my backups. same back up sets on both. I do them one at a time and physically store them different in different areas of the house for safety. one drive is bigger and i have some additional info on it.
I have been doing this for 2 or 3 years...
both laptop
questions.
a. since i seems I need at least one norton 360 backup set on my internal drive (C:), i could make a NEW backup set, only back up a few files to it. this would satisfy the Norton 360 logic, and i could delete the large main backup set on C: drfive, since it's stored to the usb drive. TRUE or FALSE?
b. next, concerns cleanup on my C: drive and usb hard drive. I have used the restore feature on Norton 360 - both for one or two files, and for a master restore of data files from my old Win XP to my new Win 7 computer to My Docs area - once on C drive, I moved them to my exact desired area. In specific, I agree I can delete files from the RESTORE screen. But, if I open up Windows explorer to show the folders and files list, and scroll down to the Norton 360 folder in the specific hard drive, there's about 8 backup sets on it. I want to remove a complete backup set. OPTION 1: go to the backup set in windows explorer and hiilite and hit DELETE key (?? does this screw up the Norton backup software ?? I am afraid to try this); or OPTION 2: go to Norton backup software,RESTORE screen , and delete individual files (?? gets real tiring to delete a large backup set, deleting about 300 files at a time till you get done. And... the backup name I think still remains??) QUESTION: for large backup sets - what do you recommend for deleting all files and the backup set name / folder? Reason - so it does not take a LONG time, and it's a clean remove, as shown in BOTH windows explorer folders / file window, and to Norton 360 software. THANKS IN ADVANCE... steve donovan
Hello Steve
Answers:
a. Yes the answer is True. You can have a new backup set created with few files and then remove the larger backup set.
b. Under N360_Backup folder, Backup sets will be stored using different catalogue names. So it will be hard for you to identify the particular large backup set.
To delete the Larger Backup set :
Choose the Large back up set from the Manage Backup set -> Summary Page and Click on 'Delete this Backup set' link
To remove the Larger Backup set files from the machine :
Traverse to the Norton Backup Drive folder available under My Computer. Choose your backup set (Here they will be listed with their original names) and hit DELETE key. This will free up your disk space and should be fast as well.
Thanks
Kavitha
Kavitha,
Thank you so far.
The Norton Backup Drive Folder - deleting using this will work for my backup sets installed on the main computer hard drive, ie, drive C: .
NEXT, Some of my backup sets i'd like to delete are on the portable hard drive (usb plug in), and it looks like they don't show up on the Norton Backup Drive Folder (?). Do I need to (or can I) delete specific subfolders directly from the Norton_360 backup folder? For example, I would keep the subfolders dated 2011, but the ones dated 2010 I would delete, IF this sounds ok to you and I won't mess up the Norton 360 main program (in specific, being able to restore the 2011 subfolders I do NOT remove).
Help? Comments? Ok with you? Any better idea? thanks steve donovan
Hello Steve
For deleting the back sets available in your USB plug in : Connect the USB and then try searching for those sets under Norton backup Drive folder.
Also if you feel the ones dated 2010 are old and you don't need them anymore, you can very well go ahead and delete those sets from the N360_BACKUP folder.
Thanks
Kavitha
I have used several versions of Norton 360, keeping the back-ups on an external hard disk (disk E). I recently installed version 5, and the installation of version 5 created a back-up on my internal hard drive (disk C), filling most of my hard disk and making my computer extremely slow. I have subsequently switched preferences to back-up on disk E, and can successfully back-up there. When I try to use "manage back-up sets", I cannot erase the version on disk C, and get a message saying "Error This back-up set cannot be deleted, as it is your only back-up set, and you must have at least one". I can delete the back-up on disk E. How can I remove the back-up on disk C so that I have more room on my hard disk? Thank-you for your help.
Hi, cramil,
Welcome to our community!
As you have always believed, it sounds like Norton has been doing exactly what you wanted it to do. Over time, due to changes you've made to the files being backed up, the size of your backup will increase. This is normal, because each time you delete or modify a file, and a backup runs, Norton has to save both the new version and the version you had previously backed up, in case you should find that the changes you made were bad/you didn't want to delete the file after all...or that the file had become corrupted and you wanted to revert to the previous version...or the version before that...or the version before that...or.... As you can see, after "a few years," this could easily grow in the manner you've described.
If you feel that you need to reclaim some of that drive space by deleting old backups, let us know, and someone will be able to help you.
Please send me these instructions for paring down my backup files, also. My backup folder is 918 GB, but the files I'm backing up are under 250 GB. I wanted to delete the existing backup and simply create a new one while everything was working properly, but the system will not let me delete the backup.
Overall, I feel that this software needs improvement in how users can manage their backed up data. There is no check and balance here. These backup probably grow beyond the capacity of user's backup drives on a routine basis and they don't know what to do to clear it.
The information at the below Symantec site shows you how to access and delete unwanted backup files in your backup set.
zoomzoom wrote:I began a backup tonight on my external hard drive and it looks like its backing everything up all over again rather than an incremental back up. Two weeks ago, I had to go back to a restore point on my computer for a system recovery because the jump drive I've been using as a power boost for my Windows Vista operating system decided to go south. Is this the reason the back up is starting all over again - or is there other some reason? I checked the folder inside the external hard drive and it's definitely growing larger than the two internal hardrives on my computer it's backing up from.
Thanks,

Welcome Zoom,
When 360 made the first backup it marked the files. As you did things on your computer the mark was erased when you changed a file. When you did the restore all of the marks were lost - none were present on the files you used to do the restore.
It may be a late suggestion but I'd almost think you might be better off deleting all of the current backups and starting fresh. If will be a full backup. So long as you don't have to do a restore again the following backups will be incremental.
Hope this helps
jgjacobs wrote:Does the Norton 360 Backup replace the backup provided by Windows 7, or is in addition to.
Hi,
It is an addition.
Hi
The Backup Feature built in windows7 offers Backup to any of the other drives, in CD/DVD or in a Network Location ( Local Backups ).
The Norton360 Backup can be done to store your files in a secured online location (in our server) and all the above can also be done in N360. N360 standard = 2GB online storage N360 Premier = 25GB online Storage.
And both are totally different from one another.
So, is it necessary to run both the Windows and n360, or can I just run the N360 backup.

Hi,
Only one is necessary. Your choice. The major differences are in the message above your last. Use the one that meets your needs best and DO use it. I backup at least twice a week when there's nothing serious happening and nightly when I must be sure that I can recover my data should anything happen. But, that's me and I've had crashes in the past when I didn't backup and had to start with a clean hard drive and rebuild everything.
