Norton 360 - cannot open it

I started up my PC yesterday (windows XP) and all was fine - i noticed the norton 360 icon in the system tray had a red exclamation instead of the usual green tick so I double clcked the icon but nothing happened. I left it a while then tried again but again nothing happened. I tried clicking the desktop icon and also the start>menu>programs>norton way but I cannot get norton 360 to open to rectify the red explanation mark.

I then tried getting on the net and the google page started to open but then just hung. I shut the computer down and restarted but this has made no difference. Everything seems to work on the computer until I try accessing the internet. - having said that I was able to get my email!?

What can I do?

Hi,

If you have Internet access I'd download and run the Norton Remove and Reinstall Tool

www.Norton.com/nrnr

This will put a clean complete copy of the program on your system. After you reboot run live update to bring the new copy up to the minute.

Keep us posted

Like I said, when I try connecting to the internet it just locks/hangs almost straight away.

Hi mpc28

Can you check on the computer clock that the following are correct?

The time?

The day?

The month?

The Year?

The time zone?

Its written like this because in the past people check the time only and one of the others is incorrect and is causing problems for the Norton product.

To check the above click on the clock in the task bar, on the dialogue box that opens click on, change date and time settings.

Check for Norton updates manually or right click the Norton icon in the task bar and click, run live updates, and then recheck until there are no more updates restarting the computer as requested.

Try running autofix by clicking the Norton icon, click support, click get support (or right click the Norton icon in the task bar and click Get support) let it run then restart the computer.  It should tell you if any items where fixed.  If you get an error message about MBAM then just click on skip on the error screen.

Conflict in security software can be the cause of various issues even if the security software has been uninstalled the debris left on the system may not have caused problems until a Norton update has been installed.

Have you or have you ever had any other security software including any trial security software on the computer including Norton?  If so, what is it?

Can you check in windows add/remove programmes, programme data and programme files for any security software that may have been bundled in a download?

What trial security software came with the computer?

OK so last night I started the computer and before even trying to access the web i went into the startup programs and disabled everything that was in there. I then rebooted and was then able to access the norton 360 menu and run any updates etc. The pc seems fine now and all net access is running fine.

Thanks for your reply but I have now sorted it.

If you re-read my original thread you will see that I stated I was unable to do anything with the norton icon - it was completely unresponsive so trying to run any updates was not an option.
