roberta wrote:I have two questions for this group. I just got done chatting with tech support about Norton 360 and I just have to check to see if the answers I got are correct because I just can't believe them.
1. Is it true that Norton Ghost 9 will not work on a computer with N360 installed? If it is true, then can you use NSR with N360?
For all I know it is possible to have these two work next to eachother
2. Is it true that the backup feature built into N360 is only for online backup and cannot be used to back up locally to an external hard drive? If you can back up locally, can you use it to make an image of your entire hard drive, similar to using Ghost or NSR?
With 360 it is possible to do a local back up to for example a external HDD or even a DVD. answer to the last question is , yes
TIA for your help.

Absolutely. I am. I don't use the 360 backup, though, because NSR has much more flexibility.
The default names for the backups are different so there isn't any conflict between the two.
You should be able to have however many different backup programs on your system you want. It's when you get into other stuff like anti-virus that you can run into problems. For example, I had to uninstall NIS 2008 before I could install 360 V2. I also had to uninstall Windows Defender because it does some of the same things 360 does.
That should be right. Norton 360 is the same as Norton Av and Windows Defender and more
The point of clarification with Ghost 9 is that it would not be supported. Ghost and Norton 360 do share the same driver for burning to CD/DVD and there could be a problem as the version for Ghost 9 was designed to use a much older driver set.
As to the last point, Norton 360 does not create an image of the system.
What is NSR?
NSR stands for Norton Save & Restore. The first version of NSR came out after Ghost 10. The Second came out after Ghost 12. In order of release:
Ghost 9
Ghost 10
NSR 1
Ghost 12
NSR 2
Ghost 14
Thanks. I recently purchased Norton Ghost 14 so I guess I don't need it. It looks like NG replaces it anyway.
I completely restored my system this morning in a fraction of the time it would have taken for me to reload everything. I am very pleased.
Glad to hear your happy with Ghost 14.
Thanks to all for your replies. Tech support had me believing that you couldn't use NSR with N360 and that N360 could only do backups online.
I guess you guys are better "trained" than the people who are paid to do this.
Thanks again,
Roberta
