Title says it all... I've had problems with this before, however they sorted themselves out when I reinstalled Norton. This time when I tried this the problem has remained. The process (ccSvcHst.exe) reports normal cpu usage until I close Google chrome, at which point it spikes to around 25% usage of my CPU and remains that way until I open google chrome again. This is ludicrous...
Any help with this? I have tried using the Remove and Reinstall program supplied by Symantec but to no avail. And there definitely seems to be a link between this and google chrome as I when watching the Resource Monitor as soon as I close chrome it jumps to 25 CPU use and drops back down if I open chrome again.
I have been trying to sort this out for a while, and tried removing Norton Identity protect as some people were saying that doing so helped with their circumstance. Regardless, any help with this with regards to being linked to Google chrome would be much appreciated.
I have been having the exact same problem. It seems the combination of Google Chrome and Norton 360 is too much for my poor old laptop. It's a Dell Inspiron 6400 with Windows XP. Ever since I got Google Chrome, and even worse since Norton updated, my computer has been slowing down or freezing altogether every time I try to do something like listen to my music on Windows Media Player, talk on Skype, or even something as simple as check emails. I have learned to never run more than two things at the same time on my computer, but even now that isn't working. My computer takes forever after starting up before I can actually make it respond to any commands, and I am forever using task manager to close things that just won't respond. It also won't even shut down sometimes and gets stuck on the "saving your settings" window, and I have to hold the power button to get it to shut off. It seems that ccsvhst.exe and svchost.exe are the two things to blame. I have tried downloading CCleaner and using it about every ten minutes or so to try and free up RAM, and even deleted a ton of files off my computer, but nothing is helping. I feel like Norton is slowly killing my laptop, and considering I just forked out $87.99 for this next year, I don't really want that to happen. I don't know what to do. I've tried everything I can think of. Can someone please help me?
My solution is that I'll be buying a different product after my Norton subscription expires.
Looks like this issue has been around for years. I've tried all the suggested solutions and ccSvcHst.exe is still hogging the CPU. Norton should have fixed this a long time ago and released it as an update. I've wasted a lot of time on something they should have fixed.
Looks like I have a lot of options from the competition's offerings. Once I switch I don't come back.
