I'm currently having an issue with Norton 360 where when I try to change the firewall settings to my applications, the system just upright crashes on me and I have to restart my PC just to have norton running again. I have programs that I need to unblock which were previously unblocked until the last recent update. Now I have numerous programs (games mostly) blocked that I can't unblock due to this.
Here is the jist of my PC specs:
Machine name: MIKURUX-AT-PC Operating System: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit (6.1, Build 7601) Service Pack 1 (7601.win7sp1_gdr.120330-1504) Language: English (Regional Setting: English) System Manufacturer: System manufacturer System Model: System Product Name BIOS: BIOS Date: 02/05/10 19:13:52 Ver: 08.00.10 Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2500K CPU @ 3.30GHz (4 CPUs), ~3.3GHz Memory: 16384MB RAM Available OS Memory: 16360MB RAM Page File: 5123MB used, 27595MB available Windows Dir: C:\Windows DirectX Version: DirectX 11 DX Setup Parameters: Not found User DPI Setting: Using System DPI System DPI Setting: 96 DPI (100 percent) DWM DPI Scaling: Disabled DxDiag Version: 6.01.7601.17514 64bit Unicode
It will probably help people to help you if you give more details about Norton 360 -- is it Standard or Premier and the Version ID which is readable if you click on Help/Support / About and it's in the format nn nn nn nnn where n is a number.
Probably does not matter about the Standard / Premier since they are the same except for the free OnLIne Storage amount but who knows .....
I'm not sure I understand your situation correctly, but there are some known issues involving manual firewall configurations that can crash the program in some circumstances. If you want to revert the firewall and all of its settings to their defaults you could try the Firewall Reset option in the Advanced Firewall Settings. Doing this would remove all of the Program Control entries and basically start things over from scratch. Would that accomplish what you are after?
Well, thus far, I removed Norton 360 off my system and reinstalled it and things are working find but I'm currently testing everything out again to make sure that everything goes ok. I'll give a final report as soon as I confirm it all.
The problem you have reported, if it is Symantec Frameworking Crashing, is happening in NIS & N360 for last about more than 6 months now due to a bug which Norton says it is looking in to it and has been not able to solve the problem till date and no patch issued.
After re-installation the problem gets solved but the problem is reported again after time or days.
I have done Clean re-install here for 7-8 times but the problem is still not solved. Now frustrated I have left it to them to solve the problem for the last 2 months. Still no patch for the same in the lates updates too!!!???
Yeah, that was the same error I was getting from Windows everytime I click on a tab to allow a program through the firewall (Symantec Framwork Crashing). This is the first time it's happened to me where I had to clean install Norton 360 but if it's a unsolved issue then there ain't much I can do about that now but to wait and keep uninstalling & reinstalling. May be tiresome but it's not like we have any other alternatives at the moment.
I recently changed to using Google Chrome as my primary browser and am having these issues since I did. Framework closes if I try to make Chrome an exception and Norton 360 simply shuts down. I am running N360 version 6.2.1.5 and Live Update says I am running the current version.
Am I to understand that there is no way to fix this? Here is what I get and how I tried to fix it and developed and/or discovered the problem.

Google Chrome's connection attempt to www-test.tservicesq.com was rejected. The website may be down, or your network may not be properly configured.
Here are some suggestions:
Reload this webpage later.
Check your Internet connection. Restart any router, modem, or other network devices you may be using.
Add Google Chrome as a permitted program in your firewall's or antivirus software's settings. If it is already a permitted program, try deleting it from the list of permitted programs and adding it again.
If you use a proxy server, check your proxy settings or contact your network administrator to make sure the proxy server is working. If you don't believe you should be using a proxy server, adjust your proxy settings: Go to the wrench menu >Settings > Show advanced settings... > Change proxy settings... > LAN Settings and deselect the "Use a proxy server for your LAN" checkbox.
I'm having the same problem. Norton 360 crashes and afterwards, there's no way to open it again. I know this message is of no help to anyone but just to let know that someone else's having the same problem.

I hope they solve it soon. It's really anoying.
I know this will not help much, but the following thread has a couple of work arounds for this problem.
