Norton 360 crashing my PC

Alright, I'm sure there is a fix for this But I have not been able to find one.

Been using 360 for the past 4 years with no issues. Up until now, when Microsoft released updates on the 16 Nov. Now when ever I use any portion of 360, my PC crashes (blue screen). Got so bad I had to install Norton using the removal tool. Tried updating norton through Live update and downloading it it directly through the web site. Still causing crashes.

Im running WIn 7, service pact 1. Norton 360 (whatever the latest edition is)

The blue screen code is

*** stop: 0x00000050  (0xfffff8813085db60, 0x0000000000000000, 0xfffff88005b80a18, 0x0000000000000005)

See attached

Any help be greatly appriciated.

Hi marcin

What is the name of the Norton product and the version number, you can find this by clicking the Norton icon, click support, hover over, about, on the window that opens, the second line down is the version number.

What are the computers specifications, you can find these by right clicking computer in the left hand pane of windows explorer then click properties.  For security reasons do not provide what you have named your computer.

What is required is,

What is the name of manufacture of the computer and the model number of the computer?

Is the computer a desktop or a laptop?

Version of windows (operating system)

Service pack

System type (32bit or 64 bit)

Blue screens can be caused by driver issues can you remember what the blue screen error reported.

You wrote.

See attached.

I can’t see anything attached there’s no link.

Norton 360, and what ever the latest edition was from the web site. Can't tell right now because it is uninstalled. I know its not the drivers that causes the shutdown, it only happens when I try to run any portion of Norton (live update, downloaded file scan, quick check, backup, or a background check when computer not in use) my laptop would crash. It got to the point where it would do it every 15 to 30 min. I know I put PC in the title, sorry should have been more specific.

Laptop specs are

WIn 7 Home premium

service pack 1

HP Envy 14 Notebook PC

64 bit operating system

And Ill see if I can attach the picture of the blue screen. I tried to copy it in my first message as best as I could.

Let me know if you need anything else.

Thanks for your help.

Hi marcin

You need to set some Internet security so windows defender and windows firewall and then get up dates and recheck for updates until there are no more updates restarting as requested.  If you have windows 7 or above then Norton will manage the windows security automatically if its windows vista or below then check to see if you need to manually disable windows defender and windows firewall after installing Norton.

The blue screen points to getting windows updates, which you should and recheck, for windows updates until there are no more updates restarting as requested.

Have you installed any hard ware or software recently if so and the above windows updates is still give a blue screen can you remove the hard ware and uninstall the software.

When you removed Norton did you use the method below?

Uninstall Norton using the windows add/remove programme.

Restart the computer.

Run the Norton removal tool.

Restart the computer.

Conflict in security software can be the cause of various issues even if the security software has been uninstalled the debris left on the system may not have caused problems until a Norton update has been installed.

Have you or have you ever had any other security software including any trial security software on the computer including Norton?  If so, what is it?

Can you check in windows add/remove programmes, programme data and programme files for any security software that may have been bundled in a download?

What trial security software came with the computer?

If you get a blue screen again can you please take the picture in the dark as the reflection in the screen makes it a little hard to read, the post it?  Thanks.

All my updates are good, the only thing left is the bing and bing desktop. Which I'm not going to install. However, when Im trying to turn on my windows firewall or the defender I get the 0x80070474 error. Ill work on getting those two fixed then ill recheck everything again and reinstall Norton to see if that fixed it.

Also I tried to reinstall Norton just to see what version it was and I got this.Untitled.png

What is: 1gdpmd64.sys

I'm not familar with that file, can you find it and right click on it and select "properties".

Is there any information given saying what it is or who made it?

Graphic driver maybe?

Dave

I'm having the same problem.

Windwos registry error every time I try to open 360.

It is creating so much problem that I'm considering of removing it forever.

Please help!!!

Hi inter

You might like to start your own thread on the board that relates to your Norton product.  On the board page top left hand side is a red button with new message in it.  Or you can just keep a check on this post but it may get confusing if you post questions on this thread.

marcin:

Microsoft does provide a fixit for that particular error.  You can give it a try here:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/968002

Thank you, but I tried that with no success.

marcin and inter, there is no good reason that Norton 360 would crash your systems, in itself.

It may be worth doing a file check and also a disk check, to make sure there are no corruptions.

The file scan can be run using the Run command prompt with administrator privileges, taking note of the space after sfc.

In the Run command, enter sfc /scannow and let it run.

If no problems with your file systems, it may be worth running Check Disk to check for any hard drive problems. You can elect to have it check Free Space, but it takes a while.

I ran the sfc /scannow and the check disk all came back fine.

I restored my l laptop to it factory setting, installed all updates to include all of HP ones. Figure start with a clean slate. Installed Norton 360, as soon as I run a quick scan it crashes my laptop. One thing that I noticed that is constant is the  igdpm64.sys  , that comes up every time there is a crash.

Does any body know what  igdpm64.sys  , and if that is the problem what's the fix for it. Im just about done with Norton and will want my refund for the reminder of my subscription.

Hi marcin

The text below is from the link below the text.

I had the same problem. I started receiving the igdpmd64.sys blue screen whenever trying to go on the internet after windows updates had automatically launched on Friday afternoon.

To fix the problem, I went to Windows Update, clicked on "View Update History", then clicked "Troubleshoot problem with installing windows updates," clicked "Fixit", selected the file "download.microsoft.com" and clicked "open". Following the fix operation, I shut down the computer, rebooted, and problem solved.
