Norton 360 desktop gadget

Hi  - I have a question about the Norton 360 Desktop Gadget. Each year, I install Norton 360 on my computer. This triggers a Norton Gadget Icon which I usually add to my desktop and will appear on the far right corner of the screen. When I start my computer, once the desktop opens, I can see, straightaway, the status of my Norton 360 program (Protected or At Risks or whatever it shows at the time). For me it's an useful gadget. The problem is this gadget only seems to work for a few months : last year, after I installed Norton 360 2011, it worked properly for about 2 months, and this year, I installed Norton 360 2012, in February, and since about 6 weeks, that gadget has stopped working again. It shows a "No connection" message which annoys me. Why is the computer system, or whatever it is, causing that annoying problem. Thanks for your answer(s). Regards, Michelle

Michelle,

What version of Windows are you using on that Computer?

It's not the same since XP does not have the gadgets which came in with VISTA but on my XP machine whenI boot up I get a long period of time during which I cannot connect to the internet and the NIS icon will not open .... then I get "Connection now open" and NIS opens up properly.

I've wondered for some time what is going on during the initial starting up that is blocking the internet connection for everything and I can only assume that it is Norton checking that everything is OK before opening that up for use, including by Norton itself.

It is particularly noticeable on my XP machine because it goes on for up to a minute but something similar is happening with Windows 7 on the same machine but it's not as pronounced.

Creat a new user account and see if you can find the gadget.
