Recently noticed an issue with Norton 360 where it disappears from my notification area and I'm not able to open it by clicking the desktop shortcut, or opening it through the start menu. There are two instances of ccsvchst.exe running, and an instance of uistub.exe running but I cannot access the actual program. Norton reappears when I reboot, but after putting my computer to sleep and coming back to wake it up, eventually it disappears ago. I've run the clean uninstaller and reinstalled before, but it didn't seem to fix my issue.
Windows 7 and Norton 360 Version 6.
I meant the Norton Removal Tool.
Norton Autofix opened up weirdly enough. Waiting for that to finish to see if it finds anything. How long does it usually take to check?
Norton Autofix seems to endlessly run.

Thanks - I've was hoping for a better result.
Please run the Norton Remove and Reinstll Tool. If you use ID Safe for your password management please export it before running the tool. You may have to run LiveUpdate (rebooting when requested) until it rsponds "no updates found".
Please keep us posted.
I may have some better news. I rebooted the computer and Norton appears in the starting tray like it normally does. I ran Norton Autofix which was much faster and said everything was okay. Eventually I have a feeling it's going to disappear again until I reboot.

Hi Barrock,
What happened is for some reason ccsvchst.exe stopped running, thus the icon in the tray disappears and in order to restart ccsvchst.exe you have to reboot the system. I was hoping that Auto Fix found the cause and possibly running the RnRT would provide a clean install.
Since everything seems OK now - you may want to keep that link handy to run the RnRT if needed in the future.
Sounds good. As long as I can update and run a scan everything should be okay right?

Yes and if you have any more situations you are unsure of - you know where to find us!
Well you said it protects it and that is not true. Either way you look at it tuneup software or registry cleaners are merely snake oil and do more harm then good.
PatsSoxBruins:I can manually remove Norton by doing this or any other antivirus. Admin under safe mode.
Safe Mode. Norton does not load in Safe Mode, so no Tamper Protection.
Cause anyone can go in and delete key registry keys under an Admin account. I can manually remove Norton by doing this or any other antivirus. Admin under safe mode. But a registry cleaner such as Tweak 10 can and has several times removed legit registry entries.
PatsSoxBruins:Norton Tamper protection does not stop a registry cleaner from removing key registry items.
Where did you find this information? NTP will protect Norton registry settings.
Norton Tamper protection does not stop a registry cleaner from removing key registry items.
@Ignatius:
How N360 disappeared still seems to be a mystery. Neither Tweak-10 nor WinZip had removed it (yr N360P) over a period of months.
Norton can protect itself very well. For more info, you may read this KB re Norton Product Tamper Protection.
Anyway, you're protected now.
Take care... :)
Tweak 10 is a joke of a program. It’s snake oil. It can remove legit items from the registry making software unusable.
Thanks for the advice. I have taken the suggested actions.

@Ignatius:
I'm glad to read that your Windows is fully protected now.
As for said PUP, plz beware of your left mouse button, always.
Further, to save your disk space, you may delete the system restore that was created by Tweak-10. Meanwhile, you can make the best of Norton Online Backup. For more tips, plz view this KB especially the additional troubleshooting post re "Norton Online Backup error messages and solutions".
And use WinZip Malware Protector w/ caution, because running two real-time security program may cause more trouble than good. At least, you may disable that Protector on startup: Open Protector > Settings > Schedule > disable "Launch at system startup" > Apply.
Thx and luck~ :)
Please never use a registry cleaner. Please remove Tweak-10 and WinZip Malware Protector. Both of those are not needed and can wreck havoc on your pc. You cannot use 2 security programs at the same time. Tweak-10 can remove even legit programs and cause the issue you are speaking of.
I have checked that I have the latest version of Norton.
I also have Tweak-10 from Totalidea which includes a registry cleaner that I run on occasions. This is a program that has been on my system from the beginnning without causing any problem.
I also have WinZip Malware Protector. Again this has been on my system for some time and this reports I am free of infections.
I have reinstalled Norton 360 and everything is green, so I gather I am protected.
I am aware of PUPs and do not believe there is anything on my system that I have not put there.
