On going problem began recently. Norton 360 V6.0 had been installed and working for some time. Noticed one day the icon missing from WindowsXP tool bar.  Clicked on desktop N360 icon. Nothing!  Went through de/re-install process with Norton support - including "eraser".  Happened again. Did de/re install myself.  Upon system startup this am --- happened again!

I'm running Windows XP (latest version) and Firefox V12.0.

Anybody out there experienced this or have a clue to help?

If the answer for the above Question is no then, Please run a Check disk in your Computer and let us know how it goes.

Check Disk: Start--> Run --> Type cmd --> Type chkdsk /r /f --> Hit enter type y --> Hit enter and then Restart the Computer. Let the Check Disk Run.

I have no other security software. The machine uses Windows XP.

thanks,

OK. I will do that. Is the something I should be looking for during that process?

thanks

The Check Disk will automatically fix whatever Bad/Corrupted entries it finds in the Hard Drive. Please report back if you face any difficulties or if it didn't work.

others seem to have the problem also

Hi,

While it may 'look' the same the 'cause' may be totally different. Consider death, the end result is always the same but the ways at which you arrive at that point are almost endless. For this reason we try to recommend the quickest and easiest repairs first. If they fail no harm has been done for when bigger, badder tools are needed to solve the problem.Troubleshooting can be a lot like being a doctor - first, do no harm. After that it's all practice.

Stay well and surf safe

dick,   just trying to keep this subject on the front page. i know there are different causes because i've been posting about this ever since i upgraded to 2012.  there seems to be a minor bug in 2012 that causes norton to stop working(8504 error codes, 360 disappears, etc)  i was lucky that a reboot seems to have fixed mine.

And I've been running 360 since the public beta and have yet to see the problem. Different places, different machines, different uses, different users, different results. :smileyfrustrated:
