Norton 360 expired / all options stop working

Hi!,

My subscription expired yesterday.  I was about to renew my subscription when I see that all options was disabled except Renew and Restore backup.  I can't even make local backup.

If that's the way Norton wants to go, as a long time user of Norton and Symantec product, I think I'm going to take a look at another solution.

To my understanding, the subscription is for the virus definition update only. Is that right ?

Thank you !

Jeff

Wow, i'm very disappointed.

I understand that the online services was not available but not the local application.  Norton seems to take its customers hostage.

I know it's not a lot of money and I was about to renew it anyway but I don't like the concept of being took hostage by a company.

Well, I'll find another product to replace it.

Thank you !

This is not free software... Norton provides the best protection, so you must pay for it. It is not wrong for the software to stop working after the subscription ran out. It is your choice to switch to another AntiVirus/AntiSpyware/Firewall/PC Tuneup/Backup program. If you are trying to get Symantec to give you something in exchange for you not going to another software, then your wrong.

Well I'm not agree with you.  I actually bought that software and I bought it each year for the last 10 years.

I can understand if Norton 360 was an online solution but it's not...

I work for a company that  sale and install accounting softwares and if our customers does not want to pay the renewal fees, we just don't send updates but we don't block the software they bought...  they owned it!

I don't want Symantec to give me something, it's less than a 100$...  but I disagree with this principle.

Except for the online solutions, I don't know a company doing this to their customers.

Hello jfabel

FWIW and with all do respect to you ... you wrote> [..]  I actually bought that software [...]

Not exactly accurate... Norton users do not buy the software or own the software.  Norton users are granted a Licence to use the software.  ELUA http://www.symantec.com/about/profile/policies/eulas/index.jsp for Norton Products.

Symantec continues to own the Software, after Your acceptance of this License Agreement You will have
certain rights to use the Software during the Service Period.  The “Service Period” shall begin on the date
of Your initial installation of the Software,  regardless of the number of copies that You are permitted to
use in accordance with Section 1.A of this License Agreement, and shall last for the period of time set
forth in the Documentation or the applicable transaction documentation from the authorized distributor or
reseller from which You obtained the Software.

Respectfully submitted

I, too, ran into this problem last week when my Norton 360 subscription expired.  I was away from home when it expired, and was in shock when I learned that I had no antivirus, no antispam, no firewall... nothing was working.  That's when I learned that Symantec's licensing now shuts down the entire software package, leaving me totally vulnerable.  This is customer support??

I had previously bought a replacemant package from a local retailer instead of renewing from Symantec because of the price difference, so I wasn't totally out of commission, however, unless Symantec changes the license agreement back to just stop updates upon expiration, this will be my last subscription.

My conclusion:

As others have indicated, I will certainly be buying a different package when this subscription expires, if not before.

Symantec seems to be the only software vendor that has descended into this practice, with which I vehemently disagree.  Mine is only a single voice, but thanks to the American capitalist system, I have a choice as to where to spend my money.  It certainly won't be with Symantec.
