This issue just started after using liveupdate. I had to uninstall Norton 360 because it was annoying. The fan would get loud because Norton 360 would suddenly use 60% of my cpu. Is this happening to anyone else?
@Dragonballjay Did you get upgraded to version 26.5.10994 (build 26.5.10994.0), AND rebooted after the update?
SA
den er ikke så slem den fejl du kan ha den men ikke altid hvis du har den permanent så skal du gen installere den
@SoulAsylum Yes, I did upgrade and restart. I even uninstalled and and reintsalled Norton 360 and it would still give my high CPU usage. Is this happening to anyone else?
@Dragonballjay Forgot to ask earlier:
What version and build of Windows to you have installed?
What is the GPU installed on this device that is affected?
Did you use the remover for the current version of Norton from here when you removed Norton or just removed it from Windows Control Panel?
SA
@SoulAsylum I have windows 11 Pro 23H2 and a 7800 XT. I used the control panel to remove it, which just brought up the Norton uninstall menu anyways.
Is this happening to anyone else. Is Norton aware of the issue?
Yes there are other having the GPU issue with their devices.
Not knowing IF this may or may not be related, have a look at something I posted just a bit ago. Check your task manager for a module named NvModuleTracker being loaded. Also look into your device manager and see whether it is loaded there. This is a telemetry AND screenshot process related to the GeForce Experience. I disabled it and then removed the device, then removed GeForce Experience software and rebooted the machine. I had not seen this on this machine previously. I AM running a full scan with Malwarebytes to see if something is memory resident.
Edited: There is one thread on the forums that was started back in March 2026 that you may want to review/watch:

@SoulAsylum My problem isn’t the GPU, it is the CPU.
Understand, they both CAN be interrelated with one or the other having to take up tasks while the other doesn’t do its job correctly. That can be an issue with the coding of programs on the part of the creator.

det er ikke en fejl ved norton det er en fejl på din pc jeg har testet den 10 gange aldrig fået en fejl
du får ikke en der kan give dig et mere rigtig svar end mig fra norton da jeg er den uden for norton med højeste rang
Okay, after looking into it further, This seems to trigger when I am on firefox trying to watch youtube videos. Whenever I start watching videos, Norton 360 creates multiple instances of Norton Antivirus, one of which goes up to 60% CPU usage and never goes back down. I always have to restart my PC to stop the high cpu usage.
Please get a screenshot and post it here for review if you’d be so kind. Having a look at what you are seeing in real time would be beneficial. One thing I would do is use the remover tool I posted earlier and remove your Norton install, do a REMOVAL only and restart. When done, locate all folders labeled Norton>Avast> and remove them manually, reboot again. Then log into your Norton account, download and reinstall your Norton product again. Make sure you reboot as soon as the install in completed then manually run live updates. Reboot when those updates are done again. That should get you a clean installation.
Additionally, if you do not already have these AMD drivers installed do so from this link and reboot.

Related to FireFox here are some suggestions for settings:
AI Overview
High CPU usage in Firefox on Windows 11 often stems from corrupted cache, conflicting hardware acceleration, or runaway extensions. To quickly resolve this, boot into Firefox Troubleshoot Mode, toggle hardware acceleration, or use the built-in Task Manager to isolate the specific tab or extension causing the spike.
- Identify the Culprit with Task Manager
Before making changes, figure out what exactly is chewing up your processor.
- Press Shift + Esc inside Firefox to open the built-in Task Manager.
- Look for tabs or extensions with high CPU/Memory values.
- If a specific website is the issue, close or refresh the tab. If an extension is causing it, disable it.
- Troubleshoot with Add-ons Disabled
Often, extensions (like ad blockers or third-party download managers) conflict with Windows 11 updates, causing spikes.
- Click the menu icon (three horizontal lines) in the top-right corner.
- Select Help > Troubleshoot Mode and click Restart.
- If the CPU usage drops, manually re-enable your extensions one by one to find the conflicting add-on.
- Adjust Hardware Acceleration
Occasionally, the way your graphics card interacts with Windows 11 under 23H2 causes GPU conflicts in Firefox.
- Go to the menu icon and select Settings.
- Scroll down to the Performance section.
- Uncheck Use recommended performance settings.
- Uncheck Use hardware acceleration when available.
- Restart the browser and check if performance improves.
- Clear Corrupted Cache and Cookies
Overloaded or corrupted local data forces your browser to work harder than necessary.
- Navigate to Settings > Privacy & Security.
- Under Cookies and Site Data, click Clear Data….
- Check both boxes and select Clear.
- Refresh Firefox
If the above steps don’t work, resetting Firefox to its default state without deleting your bookmarks or passwords will eliminate background process bugs.
Mozilla Support
- Go to the menu icon > Help > More Troubleshooting Information.
- Click Refresh Firefox in the top right corner.
If the problem persists, visit the Mozilla Support Portal to view further troubleshooting steps or discuss the issue directly with the community on the Mozilla Discussions Forum.
Please let us know what your results are when retesting.

Is there a reason for still being on 23H2? Home & Pro version support ended on November 11, 2025. May I suggest updating to 25H2 for the latest bug fixes and system changes. .NET and other software have been upgraded since last year, you are most likely missing a ton of fixes.

Check in your Norton 360 home page and click on Scam Protection, and be sure Deepfake Protection is turned off. Then test your Youtube watching.
I had exactly the same issue, but only since about 2 - 3 weeks. This trick solved it completely.
