Norton 360 has two icon in sytem tray and two instanses in taskmanager on windows 8.1

Well, I've seen the thread mentioning this happening on win 7, but as I'm using a different opperating system... wasn't entirely sure if the solutions would be similar.

With the possible conflict between the 2, is my computer protected? Will there be a patch to correct the issue... I'm kinda loathe to start doing self fixes as I'm pretty much a calamity Jane and knowing me my computer will have some major fit and stick 2 fingers up at me.

Thanks for your time :)

Hi ToeJam,

Please enable Boot Time Protection and check if the issue persists.

1. Start your Norton product.
2. Click Settings.
3. Under Detailed Settings, click Antivirus.
4. If Enable Boot Time Protection or Boot Time Protection shows Off, move the slider towards middle to Normal.
5. Click Apply, and then click OK.
6. Exit all the programs, and restart the computer.

Thanks,

Sheen

Well, not entirely sure what boot protection actually does, but it does seem to have done the job.

Thank you.

Norton 360 however didn't appear to autostart... I had to click the icon on my start screen before the norton symbol showed up in the icons.

Is that normal?

Hi, toejam. This Norton Help file explains the Boot Time Settings. I have mine set to Aggressive, which means I'm protected right from when I log on.

You can use the following options to configure boot time protection:

Aggressive

Lets you configure Norton Internet Security to perform maximum protection during your computer start time.

It ensures complete protection during the boot time as Auto-Protect starts functioning as soon as you start your computer.

Normal

Provides you enhanced protection during your computer start time without compromising your computer's boot performance.

When you set this option to Normal, the drivers and plug-ins start functioning during the computer start time before their specified time delay.

Off

Turns off the Enable Boot Time Protection option.

Turning off the Enable Boot Time Protection option reduces the level of protection of your computer.

By default, this option is selected.
