Norton 360 Identity Safe

On 6-16-11, I backed up my Norton Identity Safe through the Manage identity Safe feature.  It created an .npm file on my computer with that date on it.

Yesterday, something happened, and I accidentally deleted the Norton Identity Safe that was in use with my browser.  Since I knew I had backed it up, I thought,  "no problem," and tried to restore it.  But when I did there was nothing where all my old logins used to be.  I looked for help on the website, and it suggested using the Norton Removal Tool to uninstall Norton 360, reinstalling it again, and restoring Identity Safe again.   I've done all of that, but still find no logins.  I know the .npm file has data in it because, although I can't use it, when i tried to open it with Excel there was a lot of encrypted information there.  Does anyone know how I can get access to this?  Is it possible it is looking for a different profile name or something?  I hate to lose all of these passwords, especially when I tried to be proactive by making a backup.

Hi kwirlady,

How are you attempting to restore the .npm file?  Are you using the Restore Identity Safe Data option in the Identity Safe Settings?

Yes.  I was trying to restore it through the Managing Identity Safe Restore feature.

I just tried to "Coexport.exe, but it creates a CSV file of the new identity safe that doesn't have any new logins yet.  Is there a way to get it to open the backup file I have from June 16th that I believe contains all of my old logins?  Is there a program that will let me open that .npm file and convert it to a CSV file?

Try this trick.  Go ahead and save a login in the new Identity Safe.  Use the Backup feature to save a backup of this data.  Then do another restore operation, but instead of selecting the new backup, choose the old one that you are trying to recover instead.

Hi Kirwlady,

Can you restore the OLD NPM file and later run the CoExport.exe?

I'm afraid it didn't work..  Where does Coexport.exe look for the file it's exporting?  Can I rename my backup file or relocate it so it will be the one it exports?

I tried that, but that didn't work.  If I could open the .npm file into a CSV file, would I be able to import that into Identity Safe?  Is there any other program that will open the backed up .npm file?

Hi Kwirlady,

NPM file is a encrypted file hence it cannot be converted to a CSV file.:smileysad:

Can you please tell

1) What version of Norton 360 you are using? (You can get version number from Open product UI Click "Support"->"About", version number may look something like this 5-0-0-125)

2) What is the size of the NPM file that you had backed up?(NPM file which has all your Identity Safe contents login, passwords etc)

3) What is the OS on which you have Installed Norton 360?

Well, I think you've found my problem.  The size of the original .npm is only 21 KB!  So I believe it never backed up all of my logins last week.  I don't know why, but I assume there's nothing i can do to find those logins anywhere, right?  BTW, I'm using version 5.1.0.29 on Windows XP.

Hi quazer9,

I'm not sure that I fully understand "my sign-in pop up is now located in the far right corner of my display".

If you could post a screenshot of the toolbar area, it might be easier to see what is going on.

Forum Tip - How to post screenshots in the forum

Also, please let us know what version of 360 you are running.

Thanks!

The Toolbar board  was the right place to ask this question, which I answered there for you.

Got it, thank's. :smileyvery-happy:
