Greetings, y'all, I'm hoping someone can help me with this:
- purchased Norton 360-Prem-t the store
-attempted installing it from the disc, and the install started correctly
- it hung up at the point where it asked me if i wanted to sign up for Norton Safe Search
- when I said no thanks, it then said it was uninstalling Norton 360 and said it wanted to know why I didn't want it, which totally caight me by surprise! Then I saw a very fast list of files start oppping up in a side dialogue box, saying it was uninstalling and deleting them!
- it bounced me back out to my main screen (Windows XP). I tried again to install it from the Control Panel, only then my drive identifiers (both the icons and the list names forms) for my CD-RW and DVD-RW drive were gone from Control Panel!!
- I was able to go into Device Manager and find that they were still identifying to my system, but said that the drivers could not be found or that the driver files could be corrupted. I was able to find my original driver in my system driver folder for one drive, but not the other.
- Have tried repeatedly to re-install my drivers for my CD-RW and DVD-RW drives, but to no avail!!!
- I was able to go online to the Norton website and download and install N360-Premiere using the product code from my store package...although it automatically upgraded to Ver 6.0
- I tried finding some type of "event log" somewhere in the Norton instructions, hoping it would tell me how to return my computer to the state it was in before I ever touched it with Norton, but have not been able to.
- I've had older versions of Norton on my PC for years and never had this problem before!
- ANY IDEAS WHAT HAPPENED AND WHAT I CAN DO?
- I can't get my PC to read either optical drive, although it can still read my old 3-1/2-in floppy drive and my mult-card reader...and it is STRANGE, because when I am in Hardware Manager, they still show up, so the Plug&Play must still be talking, but it won't let me re-apply the drivers from my original PC system disc or from my C:/System folder. THEN....when I go into my system folder and manually try to run or install the drivers I can find, it gives me the error message that there is no disc drive associated with the the file!
- VERY FRUSTRATING!! this problem only occurred when I tried to install Norton from the disc and said i didn't want the Norton Safe Web Search function.
Open to any suggestions, thanks!
