Overall Norton 360 isn't cleaning up its mess.
When Norton 360 isn't in silent mode it does idle scans which starts to fill my memory up to 8GB+ even Norton 360 full system scans do the same thing.
Now the issue I'm having is that once the scan is over it continues to use the memory and the only way to free up that memory is to restart the computer.
This computer is on 24/7 due to it running a 24/7 surveillance system as the street I live on has been targeted by thieves for the past 8 months and recently they broke into the neighbours house for the 7th time last week, and they've broken into our garage twice and attempted to steel our vehicle and the neighbours vehicle.
As a result Norton 360 is able to do all the idle scans it heart desires.
Upon noticing my system using over 8GB of memory last week when it wasn't running any applications or showing any applications in task manager using an absurd amount of memory I had no idea what caused it, only that restating the computer cleared up the memory then after doing a Norton 360 full system scan the memory usage shot up and stayed well after the scan completed.
So for 3 days straight I decided to keep Norton 360 in silent mode while in between doing the normal things I do on the computer which is gaming and after those 3 days the ram usage stayed at normal levels when idle with no applications open. After an hour of Norton 360 being off silent mode it once again put 8GB of memory in permanent usage.
I built this computer purely for gaming and I'm fully aware it is below average in hardware specifications keep in mind a GTX 980 here in New Zealand costs on average $950 however my system is fully compatible with DirectX 11 and can run all the lastest games at 30+ fps.
Now my motherboard only supports dual channel memory not quad channel memory and when playing games like The Witcher 3, the game itself uses a lot more than 8GB after 2-3 hours of gameplay reaching 14GB after 5-6 hours. When the game goes over 8GB I get a 5-10 fps loss and often framerate spikes as the game starts filling my single channel memory sticks, to resolve that issue I just exit out of the game to clear all 4 memory sticks and then load it up again and my framerate is back to normal.
In every game I have I use a combination of HWINiNFO64 and MSI Afterburner which sends data to RiverTunerStatisticsServer which then displays that in an on screen display at the top left of my monitor while the game is actively running showing Vram and Ram usage aswell as CPU and GPU usage and temperatures as my CPU and GFX card has been personally overclocked by me, the statistics themselves can be hidden or displayed just by pressing F12.
So since Norton is filling up all 8GB of my Dual channel memory every time I go to play a game on my computer after it's been idle for an hour my games are going to be running at suboptimal performance on my single channel memory sticks meaning I have to restart the computer each time to get full performance.
Keep in mind that only 2 of my memory channels are rated for Dual channel memory, the other 2 lanes are single channel only.
Overall Norton 360 now has a major resource hog problem that is having a negative impact in the overall performance of my system.
This issue can be easily repeated/recreated on my system at will just by doing a fullsystem scan.
Anyone else should also be able to do this with Norton 360. I also the Windows 10 version of Norton 360 installed.
