Norton 360 is 'out of whack'

As of today, I upgraded to Internet Explorer 8. Unfortunately, when I launched Norton 360 Version 2.5.0.5, everything seems to be 'out of whack'.

Note: I'm not using Internet Explorer 8 Beta or the Release Candidate editions.

Now, I have the following problems listed below -

- Norton 360 Version 2.5.0.5 shows a message that "Your browser is not set to detect fradulent websites or to authenticate genuine web sites"

- The buttons on the Norton Identity Safe toolbar doesn't work properly as it should. When I pressed the button 'Identity Safe' or 'Log-ins', nothing loads up and it seems like that I didn't pressed any of those buttons. Don't assume that my mouse wasn't working properly, all the buttons that I press work perfectly fine but why not the buttons on the Norton Identity Safe toolbar? Why!?!?

As of writing of this message, I reverted to Internet Explorer 7 so I could log in and write this message as I didn't know what my username or password was which was plain ridiculous.

I know there is Norton 360 Version 3, but I can't afford to download it because it will just take up my internet bandwidth usage away. When I run out my subscription in around four months time, I will buy the disk from the store and install Norton 360 Version 3 on my computer. But for now, I want the solution solved. I have already wasted approximately 10 megabytes on Internet Explorer 8 and I can't afford to waste anymore.

So, how do you fix the problem so that the Norton Identity Safe toolbar works properly in Internet Explorer 8?

I remembered that the Norton Identity Safe toolbar works so well in Internet Explorer 7, but why not Internet Explorer 8?

Also, please do not give suggestions like use a different browser (Firefox), or use a different password-storing add-in that supports Internet Explorer 8. I prefer and have the trust of using Microsoft and Symantec products, and also I don't want to take the risk of losing my identity from a fake password-storing add-in.

Thanks for your help.

P.S. - I would love to see a Symantec employee answer my message.

Hello Secure-Globe,

As you wait for an official response I simply wanted to mention that I used to have a similar problem happen on the WinXp home system (although it was with Firefox, as it was running muiltiple instances of the browser at once) and rebooting the system would fix the Norton Toolbar issue.

Due to bandwidth constraints I hope in the chance that you wish to tinker with IE8/360 V2 that the IE file is stored on the hard drive (withstanding any drive constraints as well of course).

For the red x issue while running IE8 I would suggest turning off the SmartScreen filter in IE8. It can be turned off by going to  Tools and then navigating down to SmartScreen Filter where this field expands to the option for turning the SmartScreen Filter On or Off.  I would also suggest making sure to have the latest updates for 360 V2 and for your windows product as I experienced the same thing for quite a while up until a couple of days before I upgraded to V3 of 360 where the program seemed to stop reporting the issue for some reason which I can only attribute to a possible update in one or both systems.

I know you are waiting on a Symantec staffer and just wanted to share my experiences with you in the case it could be of some assistance to you before they get to your post.

Take care,

Mumford68

I did download IE8 wondering if it work work properly and found that I have so far liked it and seems to work without problem with Norton 360 v.3.

I know you are reluctant to upgrade at the moment due to the reason you state but I guess the problem will be solved once you have v.3 installed.

To all

I think you will find that what I posted earlier is the official response. For further wording you can link here and see Tony's response.

I'm pretty sure that the Internet Explorer 8 Beta Versions were around with Norton 360 Version 2.0.

By then, shouldn't Symantec be working on a patch so that Norton 360 Version 2.0 would be compatible with Internet Explorer 8's final release?

Hi Secure-Globe,

Just to make sure that I understand your situation, if you had access to a N360v3 CD, you would upgrade to v3 and be able to use IEv8, right?

Hi bkupp,

Yes, I would upgrade to Norton 360 Version 3.0 if I had access to the Norton 360 Version 3.0 CD. Provided that Norton 360 Version 3.0 Identity Safe toolbar supports Internet Explorer 8, then yes, I would use Internet Explorer 8.

However, if Norton 360 Version 3.0 doesn't support Internet Explorer 8, then I would use Internet Explorer 7.

Hi Secure-Globe,

I have tried N360v3 with Internet Explorer 8 and I am able to use the Norton 360 v3.0 Identity Safe toolbar.

I can work with you to get your Norton 360 upgraded to v3.0.
