Norton 360 *** MAJOR PROBLEMS *****EXTREMELY DISSATISFIED **

Thanks Tony.

I am presently following C Goldman's suggestions.

Ran MRT and no problems found.

Now, proceeding to uninstall.

Thanks.

Brendan

Thanks to all, especially to cgoldman, for your help in providing the solution.

I used the NRT, Norton Removal Tool, which claims to remove all NAV, NIS '03 - '08, N360 V1 and V2.

I ran that once.

I then re-installed N360 using existing installer on my C drive, and my existing product key.

It is now working .

One small problem: I could not sign into my Norton Account , tried temporary password etc.Tried old email address.

I assume I only need the account if I need to re-install ? Not to worry.

Thanks again to all for your help

Brendan

Thanks for the good news !

I'm sure Tony W will be able to help you on this.

PS To avoid confusion for others reading the thread later if I'm right that MRT in this sentence:

Ran MRT and no problems found.

should be NRT could you open that message, click on Options and Edit Message and change it to NRT?

Only you or a Norton Staffer can do this

Thanks and May the wind always be behind you ......

....Thanks and May the wind always be behind you ......

Actually, I think he did mean MRT (short for Microsoft Malicious Removal Tool), because I suggested he ran MRT and another, before uninstalling or reinstalling.

.. and may the force always be with you....

P.S.

OK its really called Microsoft Windows Malicious Software removal Tool - but the executable is MRT or mrt.exe to be more precise.

I was a bit confused at first over NRT versus MRT .

The wind usually is with me: I blame it on cheap lager ;)

"May the road rise up to meet you, the wind be always at your back etc. " as we tell all the American tourists ;)

Most grateful to you.

Brendan

Hi Brendan,

The Norton Account is helpful if you lose the Activation Key information, or you wish to install the product on another PC and don't have the key information handy. You can visit http://www.mynortonaccount.com and retrieve the information quickly. But it certainly isn't required. If you'd like to get access to your Norton Account again, contact our Customer Support team, they can help you out. Thanks!

Just shows how dangerous acronyms can be ....

I'll have to let him decide what he meant <s>

My Live Update will not run.

No part of Norton 360 will work on my machine at present.

When I click FIX, nothing happens.

I cannot see what version it is.

I have no antivirus protection as a result of buying this product.

So was it the Malicious Removal Tool – doesn’t quite sound like its proper name … ? – In case I’ve created more confusion if you’ve a moment perhaps you could put a PS saying which it was?

I knew the rest of the quotation … just wanted to see if you were awake <g> My family traces its roots back about 14 generations by name to the tip of the Lleyn Peninsula in North Wales. On a clear day if you look westwards, you can see the mountains rising out of the sea.

MRT first , then the NRT's to remove remnants of the Norton products.

Thats v interesting about Wales.I've been to Bethesda in North Wales, visiting the Austin Taylor factory .

Where are you now ?

Thanks

If you would like someone to help, can I suggest the following please.

1. Advise your operating system and release.

2. Goto to Norton Main Windows, goto Help & Support, goto About, advise version number.

3. Advise if you have any other Norton/Symantec products installed

4. Advise if you previously had any Norton/Symantec products installed.

5. Advise what Anti virus or other software is loaded, or was loaded.

6. Advise whether you tried LUALL or just live update from within the product

7. When you click Fix, what are you clicking against, virus detected or some other message.

For me, it would help if you assume you are communicating with a 2 year old, and you have to explain everything. In other words set out clearly what you see.
