Norton 360 new install problems

I visited my father-in-law the other day. He was running Norton Internet Security 2011, which expired a few days ago. He paid for a new subscription (by download) to Norton 360 for 3 PC's. He installed this on his laptop and his wife's desktop machine. Both run Win7. The desktop machine keeps getting a message stating that the program has a problem and will shut down. Rebooting and running Live Update hasn't cured this but I advised her that it probably will sort itself out with an update from Norton itself at some point. However, his desktop machine is running WinXP SP3 Pro and he has had major problems on that. Upon install all appeared to go well. He got the new interface up, and the system tray icon to run it from. Unfortunately the program would not update the definitions. As soon as it tried to do so an error box stating 'ccSvcHst.exe' needed to be debugged came up across the middle of the screen. As soon as he cleared that message Norton 360 closed itself down (by appearing to vanish off the screen and from the tray!). Shutting down did not cure the problem. I presumed that it was a corrupted update file causing it and that it too would eventually clear itself up. However, he had been advised by support to use the removal tool, download a fresh version and install that. When I was around there he showed me how he HAD removed the new version, but couldn't download a fresh copy as his account was showing all copies had been used. Subsequently, he had downloaded and put on a 10 day trial of Norton Internet Security 2013 to give himself some protection at least. I have advised him to re-contact support and see if they can authorise a fresh 360 download just for that machine.

Meanwhile, I have read a few messages on various sites about this problem. One site reckoned that the new 2013 360 is not XP compatible; others say the release is generally bugged.

I have to renew my Norton in about 6 weeks; I will now be watching the forums closely to see if the problems have been sorted. In the meantime, out of interest, can anyone direct me to any specific answers given previously on here about this problem as there are loads of current discussions to wade through and I'd like to be able to print out something for when I go back around to see him in a few days time. I hope that support will have done something for him anyway by then.
