Norton 360 not working on Lenovo

Hi, all

I recently installed Norton 360  on my Lenovo laptop G580. Norton installs fine, but after a restart the desktop widget remains however I can't start the program. After many attempts with the automatic fix provided via the support the problem still persists.

In the mean time I am using Avast and ZoneAlarm firewall, untill I get Norton working properly.

Thanks,

Cheeseandonion

Here's a link to a list which includes ZA removal

I did download it to check and it's a selfextracting exe file so I did not post the actual link to get it in accordance with Forum Policy to protect against malware links being posted.

Update: Sorry for the slow reponse, I thank you for your replies.

The laptop doesn't have rapidboot installed. I used the Avast uninstaller and the ZoneAlarm uninstaller, I re-installed norton but it still doesn't work, I try and click on the N360 logo and it doesn't load, I click the support icon, It finds a solution and asks me to restart I restart and it doesn't fix it.

Look forward to hearing from you,

I would like to use Norton 360 rather than free anti-virus.

Thanks guys.

How did you uninstall 360? If you just used the uninstall from the 360 program or control panel, that may not be enough. You may need to reinstall using the Norton Removal Tool.

What version of 360 are you using? Support - About. and is it Standard or Premier?

Then we can give you the correct download links for your product.

Yes, I uninstalled using the Norton Removal Tool.

I am currently using standard, I have tried before using the removal tool then re-downloading Norton 360 it installs fine, then after a restart it prevents me from accessing the Norton GUI.

I have contacted support.

I thank you again for your suggestions.

Please let us know how your support experience goes.

Are you contacting by online chat? That is usually the route we suggest here. You can find them at   www.norton.com/chat

Interestingly, I too have a Lenovo (few months old  G570 I3- no rapidboot and NSS 6.3.0.14) and have this same problem. When I start the computer the first time, there is no icon for Lenovo (Norton's tech remotely reinstalled it last week and I just did a new reinstall minutes ago). After restart my Norton is active and seems to do fine. I'll post back about whether the reinstall helps. It usually takes a power down and leave-it-a-bit to show the problem.  I've had the previous version of NSS since I got the computer and had not a bit of trouble. Even the Norton tech seemed to have trouble with the previous install of 6.3 and just uninstalled and did a reinstall..

Thanks for posting this thread. At least I know I'm not alone. Good Luck on your problem!

The live chat support was okay, they suggested I reinstall I followed their instructions. After the reinstall i restarted  the pc, the error occurred again and norton wouldn't start. In the live chat they did offer to provide assistance via, remote assistance tool, I tried that and it wouldn't work I was unable to receive support remotely. Looks like I will be contacting support again tomorrow. Throughout the live chat they were really helpful and a credit to Norton & Symantec. :)

I am glad I'm not the only one with this issue but I hope I am able to get this fixed. Also good luck to Kyuzo who has the problem with norton to.

I hope your issue is fixed.

If it is still not fixed, I would suggest starting a new thread, but include in the subject that you are using Norton Security Suite, as that may have some minor differences that could affect your issue.

Are you running LiveUpdate manually a few times, rebooting as necessary, until no updates are available after you install Norton?

If they were unable to connect  to your computer, there may be some underlying Windows issues.

What operating system are you using, including service pack? Is it fully up to date?

Let us know if Support is able to fix things on the next try.

Thanks for the kind thoughts, cheese!

Just for clarification, I wasn't posting for help on my issue, but to mention a concurrent issue which might affect Lenovo users and to commiserate with cheeseandonion. My reinstall of the Norton has so far seemed to cure my issue. I was hoping the same might help cheese.

One thing I will mention as a Lenovo user- don't know if it will help: If you've used the Startup Manager or modified the startup programs, you might want to check that. My G570 seems somewhat sensitive to having the Lenovo Boot Optimizer or the Intel Storicon disabled or delayed. Like I say, perhaps grasping at straws, but I wish it would work for you. You might also check at the Lenovo forum. I haven't had much luck there, but you might.

Anyway, the very best of luck to you.

Hi, all another update the remote assistance worked they checked the install, it installed fine I mentioned to them it doesn't work after a restart, they restarted it disappeared, when I went back on the computer the logmein assistance disappeared. I was offered an extra 30 days subscription free of charge for the hassle however the chat with the support guy some how eneded and havent been able to get support since due to the fact the support has been busy all morning.

Ill try to keep you all updated.

Yes I have done liveupdates etc.

Thanks,

cheeseandonion

Still not a solution then.

Can you tell us your operating system and service pack, and whether 32 or 64 bit?

Is it fully updated?

Nope, was on the phone and live support with them for hours, they should be calling me back today with a more senior techie.

System: Windows 7 64-Bit  Service Pack 1

Yes, the system has all the latest Microsoft updates.

Thanks,

Cheeseandonion

Hi,

We certainly understand your concern regarding the problem you are encountering with Norton 360. We suggest you not to click on the Norton 360 icon as soon as your Laptop reboots or starts. It takes few minutes for all the services and the startup items to start or load. Clicking on the Norton icon before the startup items or services starts will give you an error. Please do contact support as they are always available here to assist cx's issues.

I suggest you to check this time in case if you uninstall and reinstall the Norton 360.

Nope still doesn't work. Norton works on my other pc's but not on the Lenovo.

For now I will carry on using Norton for the other two pc's, but looks like may consider a different anti-virus for the Lenovo. I would like to take this moment to thank Norton and you guys for your help during this issue.

If anyone has any more suggestions that would be good.

Thank You

cheeseandonion

Have you tried running msconfig and disabling all startup items. Reboot and then test the system.

If that cures the issue, then try resetting the startup items, one or two at a time, until you find the one that causes the problem. Remember to reboot between tests.

Let us know if this helps.

Sorry for the trouble. Can you send me the reference case ids from the support in a private message? I can review it and let you know how to proceed further.

In meantime, try to create a Norton Bootable Recovery tool in any other computer, then run a scan in your computer with it:

http://www.norton.com/nbrt

This is to make sure that your computer is free from threats.

Thanks,

HarryP
