Norton 360 on Android devices

I recently bought a Samsung Galaxy Tab3 and, after some difficulty (mostly my fault), managed to get Norton 360 Premier to run on it.  I also installed Norton Password Manager (NPM, Vault managed in the Cloud)

When I click on NPM, I get a web page but I don't get the bookmarks I've saved and use on the normal Galaxy web page.  Can I migrate these to the NPM page?

The Vault system doesn't seem to work in the same way as on a PC installation.  There, if I open a log in page that has Vault protection, I get a prompt to open the Vault or, if the Vaults already open, I have the username and pasword filled in.  Is it possible to cahieve the same set up on the Galaxy?

Thanks,

Ian

Hi iancol.

If you did get N360 Premier to run on your Galaxy tab I would be surprised, unless it was in fact Norton 360 Multi Device which allows you to install the Android application - Norton Mobile Security (NMS) or Norton Security antivirus as it is currently called in Google Play.  As you say you did get it installed I will assume that all is well and you do not need help on this, though if you have any questions on NMS in future you might like to look at the Norton Mobile Security forum.

I assume your main issue is with Norton Identity Safe which on Android devices is provided by the Norton Identity Safe password app.  If you have questions about this it is probably best to put them in the Other Mobile products forum.  I have not suggested moving this thread there, at the moment, as I am still not entirely sure if that is the primary issue you are interested in.

Do let us know if you need any more help here.

Thanks, both.  It definitely is N360 Premier.  I started looking for 360 Multi-device when I was advised that NIS wouldn't handle mobile devices, but arrived at the download page for Premier.  Once installed, in the management screen there's an "Add device" button for the relevant app (assuming you have a licence spare).  After a lot of hassle, I did manage to get it to install and subsequently downloaded the app for Password Manager.

I'll check out the papges you've pointed me to.  Thanks, meanwile,

Ian

Hello again iancol.

I have been continuing to puzzle over your installing N360 Premier on an Android device.  Could you do me a favour and look at the app (posting a screen shot if possible) and let us know what the anti malware product on your Galaxy tab thinks it is called and what version it is.  If you need any help in doing any of this - just ask.  I know that this does nothing for you in sorting out your Identity safe issues but it might give me a better idea of what is happening with Norton products.   ;-)

Thanks.

Hi, Andmike,

Will do.  Can you tell me which screens you want?  Also, may be better if you pm me an email address, to avoid loading large files on to the forum.

Thanks,

Ian

Hi iancol

You might find the link below to a post in the forums from Yaso_Kuuhl helpful with instructions on how to

add screenshots or images to the Community Forums then your posts -

Hi iancol

If you could upload a screenshot of the About info for the Norton Mobile Security

(NMS) app on your Android device as this will supply the version number etc for

the app which will be very helpful.

To find the About info you should just have to open the NMS app and tap Menu

then About and take a screenshot of that screen and info.

And maybe just a screenshot of the main UI for the NMS app would be helpful as

well.

I am sure those screenshots will help. :)

If you are not sure how to take a screenshot with your particular Android device all

you have to do is be on the screen you wish to capture and hold the power button

and home button simultaneously.

Cheers. :smileywink:

Hi, SMithy,

The link you posted seemed to apply only to WIndows applications.  I'll sort something out and revert,

1 sd.jpg2 sd.jpg3 sd.jpg4 sd.jpg5 sd.jpg6 sd.jpg7 sd.jpgRight. I've managed to create a few images, using a camera.  I had to edit a couple to remove personal stuff.  Here's my description for each one:

1 sd.jpg - this is the spec. page for the Galaxy Tab 3, just in case;

2 sd.jpg - this shows the app icons on the home page of the Galaxy;

3 sd.jpg - this is the first page you see when you hit the Mobile Security icon;

4 sd.jpg - this is the resuly of selecting "About" from the menu exposed by hitting the left hand button on the frame;

5 sd.jpg - this is the sign-on screen for Password Manager, seen when you hit the Norton Ident icon;  Nothing happens when you hit the left hand frame button when this screen is up;

6 sd.jpg - this screen appears when you inout the Vault password, showing logins available from the Vault (some, anyway);

7 sd.jpg - hitting one of the list of items on 6 sd.jpg brings thisscreen for that login.  Hitting the "sign in" button takes you to the relevant web page with the login prefilled.

There are problems with the password software on the Galaxy, but I'll report these in a separate post.

Jumping in late so forgive me if I am missing the big picture...

Seems like you were looking for Norton Mobile Security or also listed as Norton Security antivirus but instead downloaded Norton Identity Safe? They have almost the same app store icon (which we know is a problem and working on).

They play around with the descriptions sometimes in order to help the search engines.

I think this is the product you want?

I can't see the images you posted.  They come up blank.

Identity Safe Mobile Program Manager- Symantec

Form filling (as we call it) is not nearly as sophisticated as the PC version of IDSafe.

Bookmarks will also not carry over.

Our next release improves this considerably, but we are a couple of weeks from shipping.

If you would like to beta test it I can send you the link to download it.  Please send me a private message and I will email you the link.

Identity Safe Mobile Program Manager- Symantec.

Hi, RDL,

I thought I'd got the right version of mobile security, having reached the download page via the Norton management screen and "Add Device".  As for the ID Safe, I assumed I needed that as well, to complement Mobilre Security.  As noted above, I've found some issues with the latter and will post later this evening.

Thanks meanwhile,

Ian

Just realised I somehow failed to upload the 4th picture -  the "About" screen.  Here it is.

Sorry,

Ian

Hello again iancol.

Thanks for posting the images.  I note that you used a camera.  I think you will find that your device should be able to save any screen it is showing - probably by pressing the on/off button and the volume down button at the same time.  Then you will probably hear a click and see the screen image temporarily shrink - that image is saved to file.  You may find this helpful in future.

You certainly have NMS and a long license.  I note that although it is more than a year it is less than two years, so I assume that you have had your N360 Premier for several months and that it is a multi year license.  I and the Norton team, remain surprised that you managed to download and install NMS using a Norton 360 Premier license but if that is what you have and that is what you did - well done.  If on checking you find that your original product is not Norton 360 Premier please post back or we will remain puzzled.

Now I think I should get out of this thread and let you get on with your issues about Identity Safe - where I must leave things to others.  Sorry for the interruption.  Good luck.

iancol

Can you log into your Norton Account at   www.account.norton.com  and see what is reported beside your current subscription for the product name.

Andmike

FWIW.  The download for 360 MD gives you the same download as the 360 Premier. The products are distinquished by the Key that is used when purchased. The OP may feel he has Premier because that is what would be reported by the product on the PC.

Hi again,

Using your text:

Thanks, but this device is actually my wife's and I'd rather not use it any more than I have to!  I hope I don't have any more reasons to, anyway.

You certainly have NMS and a long license.  I note that although it is more than a year it is less than two years, so I assume that you have had your N360 Premier for several months and that it is a multi year license.  This is a long story, but I started off with a recently-renewed version of NIS and asked Norton if it would accommodate the Galaxy.  They said no, you need NMD, so I arranged to do the upgrade and get the balance of the license transferred.  I and the Norton team, remain surprised that you managed to download and install NMS using a Norton 360 Premier license but if that is what you have and that is what you did - well done.  If on checking you find that your original product is not Norton 360 Premier please post back or we will remain puzzled.

As requested in the post following yours, here are two further screen dumps.  The first is what I see when right click on the Norton icon in the toolbar and look at the Help screen, the second when I load up my Norton account.  Spot the difference!  No wonder I'm confused.  I will get round to reporting on the weird behaviour of ID Safe on the Galaxy.

Hi iancol

As you have a subscription to Norton 360 Multi-Device (N360M-D) that entitles the user

to download and install for PC protection Norton 360 Premier Edition of Norton 360.

And it also entitles the user to download and install the mobile protection for Android and

iOS devices being Norton Mobile Security (NMS), as we can see you have that installed

on your Android tablet from your photos.( thank you for all of your photos :).

So that is why in your photo of the tablet and the NMS UI it shows 511 days remaining

becuase it would appear that you purchased a 2 year subscription to the N360M-D product.

So if you purchased N360M-D from the online Norton Store then it will be able to be used

with 5 devices being either iOS, Mac, PC or Android.

But it appears that you may have purchased a retail version allowing only 3 devices or

licensed installs with your subscription to N360M-D.?

I hope that helps to clarify your install of NMS on your Android tablet and Norton 360 Premier

Edition on your PC.

Cheers. :smileywink:

Hi Smithy,

I'm afraid you're mistaken.  As explained above, I had an existing NIS contract, on to which was grafted thw 1 year contract for N360.  From another photo above, you'll see that I have only 3 licences (enough, thank heavens).  The transfer was effected with help from one of your online assistants.

I said I'd report back on the application of the ID Safe on the Galaxy.  Here goes.

Looking at the "screen dumps" posted above, you can see that when I hit the ID Safe icon, I got a list of saved logins, then after hitting any login, got the "sign in" option, which took me to the web page and filled in the usrname and password.  I can't remember if it also took me sraight in (as the version on the PC would), the reason being that the list of logins disappeared from the screen whilst I was doing something else.  I came out and back into ID Safe and this time, got a "You have no logins" message.

This is strange, because the logins are all in the Cloud and the ID Safe on the Galaxy requires the same pasaword.

There were still some entries in the Bookmarks/Favourites page, one of which I selected and manually added the username and password.  I was able to save this information ot the ID safe.  I logged off and logged in again, but the boxes weren't auto filled.

I came out/went back into ID Safe and the login was there.  By selecting it, I was able to load the web page but the boxes didn't auto fill.

Needless to say, the ID safe function doesn't work when I select the normal "Internet" from the Galaxy home page.

All a bit of a mess, really.

Just a general question - the ID Safe opening page looks like a regular web page, except for the rather gloomy colours (mainly black).  Is it intended that this web page format be used for all work that may involve a login, which would require all the relevant bookmarks transferring across manually?  It wouldn't be too big a chore if I could have been able to see all the logins in the ID Safe opening screen (as seen on my PC) and save the opened pages to bookmarks as and when they are first used.

To end on a positive note, the internet protection software (whichever version it is) does seem to be working, in that when I start up the Galaxy, I see a small, ornage padlock in the top LE corner of the screen and a flashed "Protected" message.

Regards,

Ian

The Norton Identity Safe only works with the browser that is included with ID safe. With the Apple versions, this is a result of the way Apple protects their apps by not allowing other apps to interact with Apple apps. There may be a similar restriction for the Android apps.

That explains why you cannot access ID safe when you start the default Internet app on your phone.
