Norton 360 Premier hangs up during scan

Recently Norton 360 has been hanging up before completing scans. As a test, I have left it running overnight in order to allow more than sufficient time, but the next morning the scan has not ended and the running count of the number of items scanned has not changed.

Running version 22.9.0.71 on Windows 10 v. 1607, build 14393.693.

Suggestions concerning what might be causing this and how to resolve this issue will be most appreciated.
