Norton 360 Premier Multi Device, Win 8 & Action Center Error Messages

This is for the mods & N360 programmers.

Since installing N360 Premier Multi Device on my Win 8 system, I have two error messages from the Action Center. First one is listed as "Spyware and unwanted software protection (important)". When clicking on that, it says that Norton 360 Premier Edition - Status Off and Windows Defender - Status off. When clicking either option to turn it on, nothing changes.

The second error messages is listed as "Network firewall (important)" and when clicking that, I get three options for turning on firewall protection 1)Turn on Windows Firewall, 2) Turn on Norton 360 Premier edition and 3) Find an app online to protect my PC. When clicking on the second option, I get two options, to either trust this program or not to trust this program for installation.

In checking my firewall settings via Win 8, it shows Norton 360 is managing the system, yet says my antivirus software is turned off.

N360 is loading up and it says it is doing the firewall job.

Now, to let you know ... I've swept my system on a full scan with MBAM 1.7 & N360 full scan and it found nothing. I've rebooted and am seeing the same results as above.

I do not have Windows Defender installed on my system.

So, is this a coding error on the part of Symantec, of MS, and most importantly because of these action center error messages, is my system protected?

Inquiring minds want to know ... and in a hurry too!!!!

Thanks for any info you can provide.

Hi,

Have you also run the Norton Remove and Reinstall Tool to be sure you have a clean copy of 360?

Thanks

This is a known issue with the way Windows 8 is seeing the third party security software. It is not just Norton.

Norton and Microsoft are working on this together.

The main thing you need to know is that as long as Norton is reporting that it is working (green check mark in the icon) your system is protected. It is just how Windows is reporting the coverage.

Hi folks,

Thanks for the replies. Just thought I would pass on some info. After my post was posted and reading the other threads, I tried a few other steps as suggested in the other threads. Nothing worked, so I tried something else. Did a cold boot, with the system hanging up on shutting down. Did one more cold boot the following morning ... and lo and behold, no warning messages from the action center.

Now, I don't know why I'm not getting those error messages any more, but for those that still are experiencing a problem, try two cold boots in a row and see if it clears the problem.
