Norton 360 Premium 6.1.2.10 no Home Group or Home Network

Since upgrading to this version I lost all connectivity to my home network.  I have uninstalled & reinstalled 360, added a local subnet Firewall rule to let everything in/out on all protocols and still nothing.  All of the systems are using 360 version 6, and Windows 7, and wireless.  Each system can connect to the internet and have no other issues.  I had a Symantec tech guy working on it for 2+ hours and he finally gave up and wanted me to call.  After 2 hours with an expert, the last thing I wanted was to call in and try to communicate the issues with someone else.

Do any of you have any ideas?

Thanks

Jeff

Can you check your Network Security Map to check that all PCs are shown as Shared?

Dick,

Thanks for the quick reply - all of my systems are Win 7 Home Premium Service Pack 1.  I've done it all to the book and have only Norton 360 on the systems.

Thanks

Jeff

I have full trust on for the network, but I will comment that what seems odd is that I can see only one wired network printer - not the wireless, and I can't see any of the known wireless or wired computers on my home network.

Do you get the same result from all your computers when looking at the Network Security Map?

Hi,

Since upgrading a few weeks ago I've noticed that my Homegroup has also dissapeared the same as earthwayjk's. However I only became fully aware of this the other day. Now for the last 24 hours, I've searched all over the net for solutions to this problem but all I seem to find are questions rather than answers by people experiencing the same problem? On a couple of Norton forum threads that also popped up during the searches, the original thread starters seemed to find or kluge the solution themselves and shared the temporary fix with other posters. Not a Norton employee. For a company as big as Norton I find that kind of well... Scary.

My Homegroup was working fine before the install a few weeks ago. Now my PS3 and my Android device can't see it like they could before. The funny thing is Windows Media Player and Samsung Allshare do seem to detect the Android device over the via wi-fi and I'm able to browse and play files accordingly from "it" but it appears to be one way only. The PS3 and the PC are wired to the super hub though and can't see Homegroup on the Windows 7 PC. In the settings on 360 I've set all the detected devices Android, PS3 and the hub to "full trust" but still no joy.

Now don't get me wrong, I'm not here to troll or be a keyboard warrior and start hurling abuse towards employee's or the company but I really would like a fix to this problem asap by somebody that knows what they're doing as I'm close to breaking point with this and Norton now. I've also had to resort to registering in order to post on here so I'm guessing more spam along the way. lol It seems to have been a pretty widespread problem for years now over previous versions with no ultimate solution or lessons learned.

I hope you or someone else can help me here. Thanks in advance.

Hi Larry

Welcome to the Norton Forums. And sorry for the trouble you're havin. I can give you a few suggestions, if you've difficulties in doing/following the stuff please do contact our support from here.

I want you to first make a note of your Homegroups Default Gateway IP address: Open Run (win key +r) --> type cmd --> type ipconfig --> make a note of the Default Gateway IP.

Then Open N360 --> settings --> Firewall --> Traffic Rules (tab) --> Add --> Allow --> to and fro --> Only the computers and sites listed below -->Add -> enter that Default gateway IP  OK --> Click next  -> then complete the wizard --> Now go ahead and check the communication from those devices and let us know how it goes.

I've also had to resort to registering in order to post on here so I'm guessing more spam along the way.

Hey Larry you can expect help from diffrent people by registering...Not worry we dont keep any spams in our storehouse...eek.gif

Hi Surash,

Thanks for getting back to me. I've just tried what you suggested. I assume that I was just to select "individually"  following "only computers and sites listed below"? But no joy. PS3 and Android still can't find the Homegroup.

Larry

Hi

Please goto the Network security MAP(Settings-->My Network--> Trust control Configure) and then make a not of the IP address shown for the PS3 and the Android device.

Then create a rule allowing those IP's in the Traffic Rules .

Nope. Still nothing.

Goto Settings--> My Network --> Network Map click on Purge --> Restart the Computer --> Open the network Security map again and then give Full trust to those devices once again.

Also Open Network and Sharing center by right clicking on the Network icon at the bottom right corner--> Click Advanced sharing option at the top left corner --> select the options turn ON Network Discovery and turn ON files and printer sharing and then check now.

Still nothing.

Edit: I've just noticed something odd. When running the PC version of Allshare and not the version on the Android device, it's actually detecting the Android device "and" the Homegroup. The Homegroup also appears to have it's own gateway address to underneath the icon. Should I try putting that in the 360 settings for full trust? Or is that completely non-related as I still can't see it on the other two devices.

Larry

Can you restart one more time and check.

And if its not working, Please Backup the Identitysafe Data-->uninstall N360P from the start menu (select Remove all data option) and try to access those devices.

If it goes well then install the Norton36P again then give full trust to those devices again.

EDIT: Is that Default gateway IP different from the one that showed up when you ran ipconfig?

Yes it is. Very different. But I don't think it's supposed to be the default gateway IP. I was wondering whether it was just a generic IP assigned to the Homegroup itself? As I said the Homegroup icon is only showing up on the PC version of Allshare not the Android device version and it's still not showing up in Windows Media Player like it used to either. And that's normally the first indication that it's present and correct.

So you still want me to uninstall 360? :-l  Backup identitysafe data?

Larry

?

Yes Larry. A reinstall will give you a fresh start to help in identifying a solution to this problem.

Well I've done a fresh install. And still the same problem.

Larry,

<<  When running the PC version of Allshare and not the version on the Android device, it's actually detecting the Android device "and" the Homegroup. >>

Is your PC running Windows 7? "Homegroup' came in on Windows 7 for use between Windows 7 computers and it doesn't work for example between a Windows 7 computer and a Windows XP computer where Workgroup was the default!

I'm not an expert on networks but I frequently see a similar problem in other forums where I do support on Windows and people set up a new computer with Windows 7 and it can't see the XP computers ..... change them all to Workgroup or any other name you want to use except Homegroup and the network shows up normally.

I would expect that situation to be even more so with non Windows computers .... but who knows ... just a thought.

When you re installed, did you use the Norton Removal Tool or the Remove and Reinstall Tool? If you did not, there could be remnants of old installs that can be causing issues with the current install.

The Remove and Reinstall Tool can be found here www.norton.com/nrnr

Be sure to back up your Identity Safe data first.

Run the NRNR

Run LiveUpdate a few times, rebooting as necessary, until no updates are available.

Import your Identity Safe data.
