Norton 360 Prevents Screen Saver From Staying On

I just renewed my Norton 360 about a week ago and am having a problem with it interacting with the screensaver in someway. It seems like the screen saver comes on then after a short time it flashes off with a pop up from norton at the bottom right of the screen that says something about the background tasks. What I think Is happening is the pop up from norton is causing the computer to come out of idle therefore the background tasks dont happen and it just repeats itself.

I am running Windows 7 64 bit.

I never had this problem at all untill this recent renewal.

This is very frustrating because I use my computer hooked up to my flatscreen tv and us it for listening to music for long periods of time so the screen saver is essential that I don't get image burn on my tv.

At the time your computer is idle, Norton runs some back round tasks, so yes, it will do that. I don't know what to do of that, but may I ask why this is a nuisance to you?

Hi EndlessDark,

Not sure this will work or not - but may be worth a try.

From Main Page of N 360 settings > Admininstrative Settings > Norton Task Notification > OFF.

Norton Task Notification lets you show or hide the notifications that appear when N 360 runs an automatic background task. When your computer is idle, N 360 runs Norton-specific automatic background tasks such as Full System Scan, Automatic LiveUpdate, and Insight Optimizer. By default, N 360 shows notifications when it runs these background tasks.

When this option is turned on, N 360 shows the notification to inform you about the background tasks that are running. When this option is turned off, N 360 does not notify you about any background tasks.

By default, the Norton Task Notification option is turned on. You can turn off this option if you do not want to be notified about the background jobs. Turning off this option does not affect the execution of automatic background tasks in any way.

One addtional question - is it the actual warning popping up causing you to come out of screensaver or the start of the background task?  If this setting does not work for you - let us know and we'll try something to stop the background tasks from running.

Sorry it took so long to get back with you..I thought I would be notified of replies by email lol..guess not. Well Yank I think that will probably do it but I just made the change and i will let you know the results. I think theres just a little glitch or something in which the pop up trips the screensaver. This solution you presented should work cuz I'm pretty sure it's just the pop up thats tripping the screensaver so we will find out soon! Thanks for the reply.

That was the solution. I turned off the notifications like you suggested and it solved the problem. Cool deal. I'm still unsure whether the conflict originates in Windows 7 or Norton 360 but this certainly solved it for me. Thanks Yank!

By the way.. I don't miss the notifications :smileytongue:

You are very welcome and glad you got it sorted.
