Norton 360 prevents Windows 8 from downloading Windows Updates

 

If Norton 360 smart firewall is On I cannot download Windows Updates in Windows 8...the progress of the Windows Updates download sticks at 0KB . If i disable the Norton 360 smart firewall for 15 mins I can download the updates. Please advise of the setting in Norton 360 that I have to change to allow these updates to download when Smart Firewall is on

Make sure that you have set Windows Update component(wuauclt.exe) to Allow in the Program Rules settings of Smart Firewall in Norton 360. Refer to the following KB for instructions:

I am also having this problem in Windows 8 where it hangs on Windows Update, but oddly Norton does not see the file wuauclt.exe when I try to browse to it via the Program Rules when I try to add an allow rule for that file.  I can see the file when I bring up windows explorer just fine, but Norton doesn't see it, so I can't add a rule to allow access to the file.  I can't see any reason why this is happening.  I have looked at file permissions on the files that Norton can see and there is no difference between those files Norton sees at that point and the permissions for wuauclt.exe.  I am looking in C:\Windows\System32.  Any idea what might be going on?

Sorry, never mind, it looks like my problem had nothing to do with Norton.
