Norton 360 problem

Hello.  I'm hoping someone can help me with this.  I have Norton 360 v5 and it all works OK except when I attempt to do a registry scan.  After the scan begins and after a few items are scanned, it gets "hung up" in the "fonts section," whatever that is, and won't finish the scan.  I have left it scanning the "fonts section", where it seems to get stuck, for over 30 minutes with the same result.  The scan can't seem to get beyond this point.  What might be wrong?  I am using Windows XP on a Dell Dimension computer.  Thanks!

Hi,

can you please tell us on which Windows OS does your friend tried to install the product? And does he have an administrative user account? The setup should be run as administrator.

Plus you should check if there's any other AV product on that machine. It is possible that it is the error, the other product blocks the install somehow...

sorry,i'm new to this - i'm from new zealand, where i purchased a norton 360 product online. it was successfully installed on two of my computers, but when i let a friend in the philippines get to it, she isn't able to install as after download and running it, it stops after initialization with a message that says installation cannot be completed. what's wrong?

Note that even if it is installed, your friend in the Phillipines will have to record the KEY in the same MyNortonAccount as you used for your two computers -- if a different MyNortonAccount was set up on the third computer with a different user ID and password then the Norton System would probably say it could not register the KEY because it had already been used. This is to safeguard the licence rights under which we use the software.

Have you run LiveUpdate manually a few times, rebooting as necessary, until no updates are available.

What version of 360 do you have? Support - About.

Do you have XP fully updated with Sp3?

Hi codedJB,

Glad to know that you dont face this issue on your computer. But it seems to occur on your parent's computer. As you mentioned that it is the old computer. Some times our computer will be performing a bit slower , we might not notice it . But when we install a security program , it will look like it has gone slower.  It is because the security program must run on computer continously to protect it from the threats.  We can take care of this by removing unwanted programs . After that try doing a clean up using N360 PC tune up

Please let me know if this worked for you :)

From what you describe, I would suspect other things and if the solutions so far suggested dont work, then I would consider the following. Has the computer ever had an anti virus program installed? If so, have you run that programs cleanup tool to ensure that it is fully removed before you installed N360? Next I would download and run "autoruns". You can google and download from technet at Mircosoft.com. You need to examine the Logon tab and try to establish what each entry is and whether you need it or not.

The other way is to run msconfig and select Selective Startup and untick startup items. Do all the icons appear on every reboot. If so that the problem is with one of your startup items, and then you need to reintroduce startup items and go to startup tab to manually select items to start.

The downloaded copy of Norton was v6, but it may have updated, I'm not sure.

Also, I am unable to use the computer, nothing works, except for Task Manager.

reboot into safe mode. Run msconfig as advised before. Download, install and run autoruns. Examine login tab items.

OK I'm a Norton 360 user on my windows 7 laptop that's just over a year old. Very recently, Firefox keeps saying that it wasn't working "check internet connection, cannot display webpage etc" but for EVERY site. IE was working though so it was just firefox. When I googled the problem and it came up with Norton 360 firewall is blocking firefox. Fair enough, gave a step by step guide to fix it except.. I don't think my Norton 360 is working. Although the icon at the bottom on the toolbar at the right has a green tick I can't click on it, it wont open, and neither will it open on the icon on the desktop, or in the start menu. NOTHING happens. Even right clicking doesn't work.... although on a few things it gives the error message "the scan cannot run because Norton 360 has encounted an internal program error." This is REALLY worrying me as I'm sort of hoping I don't have a virus. I don't know why this has suddenly started happening. Please help. Many thanks.

I don't know because I can't get onto Norton to get onto that part of it. It wont let me access anything. I know it's Norton 360 and it was installed a month ago with no problems. Other than that, I can't tell you anymore. Sorry.

Reboot?

You said you installed 360 a month ago........

Is it v20.2.1.22?  If so, there are many, many issues with it.  I've had nothing but problems with it since I upgraded to it a month ago.  IMO, Norton needs to come up with a solution to fix ALL of the issues.

I am no computer expert so I know very little about computers but I try.  I have Norton 360 on my computer.  It had been running fine until the last few days.  I noticed I had not had any scans run in days.  Also when I go to open it when I click the icon it will either open up and then close before you can use it or it will not open at all.  Is anyone else having this problem.  I have downloaded the NrNr and uninstalled and reinstalled it twice but it continues to do it again.  Any suggestions?
