Norton 360 product key usage

Hi

I just bought Norton 360 and it says up to 3 computers can be protected. My current Norton is Norton antivirus 2011.

Now can I use the product key of the Norton 360 to renew my subscription of my current Norton antivirus 2011?

Also, can I use the same product key for a second time to renew my subscription on another computer?

Both computers have Norton antivirus 2011 installed, I only need to renew subscription on both computers, so will it work using the Norton 360 product key for both computers? This means activating the product key twice to get the renewal subscription.

Regards.

Hi, n1user1,

Welcome to our community!

I think the answer you're really trying to ask for is a yes, but it's going to work a little differently than you envision. You cannot renew subscriptions for one Norton product with a Key for another, so step one is going to have to be uninstalling Norton Antivirus from both machines, using the Add/Remove function in Windows Control Panel. You will also want to download and run the Norton Removal Tool to ensure a clean removal of your old software.

From there, the news gets better fast. Norton 360 includes all the functionality of Norton Antivirus...plus a smart firewall, plus a simple backup system, plus a handy set of utilities to help keep your system in top condition.  So you're not losing a thing by having to get rid of Norton Antivirus--in fact you're gaining  a bunch. And yes, you will be able to protect both computers with the license you now have.

Just download the correct software, after removing Norton Antivirus, per the above, based on which edition of Norton 360 you have purchased:

This will ensure that you get the most current program updates and signature files, without having to run LiveUpdate nearly so many times as you would installing from a CD. When the software is installed, just activate it on each machine with the Key you got with your new product. It's that simple!

Please let us know how this works out for you--we're here to help until you've got both your systems protected by "the speed and power of Norton!" :smileyvery-happy:

No the KEYs are not interchangeable between the different Norton applications (or between subversions of N 360) so
you can't use the N360 key to renew your NAV installations .... but you can uninstall NAV on the two PCs and replace it with N 360 but this will lose you any unexpired time on the NAV activations -- is there much time left on those?

You have two possibiliites -- uninstall NAV and then install N 360. If you bought a 3PC copy of N 360 then you can use the key on up to 3 PCs.

Or contact the Norton OnLine Customer Support and see if you can negotiate to change your N 360 to a 3 PC NAV licence and use that KEY to renew the activation of the the existing 2 PCs and whether you can do this now without losing too much unexpired time.

Note that Norton 360 has features that are not in NAV -- Identity Safe and a Firewall in particular as well as some utilities that you may or may not find useful (just be careful how you use them if you don't know what they do!). However at present the AV engines in Norotn 360 V5 may not be as recent as in NIS or NAV 2012 ....

If you want to do a simple uninstall of NAV and replace it with N 360 I suggest you let us know since we can give you a link to download an installation file for N 360 that will be more uptodate than the one on any disk you buy since these are nearly a year out of date buy now! When the next version of Norton 360 Version 6 comes out in the next few months you will be entitiled to a free upgrade to it.

You need to tell us if you bought a copy of Norton 360 Standard (2GB of free online storage) or of Norton 360 Premier (25GB of free online storage) so that we can point you to the correct file ... and you did not buy the Netbook version of either, did you?

Hmm well I asked because I didn't want to go through another installation process but ehh whatever I'll do it due to the product key.

Right now, I have 12 days left on my current Norton AV, and for which N360 I bought, I think it's the standard version because of the 2GB notice on the back of the box.

Now till my current Norton expires, what do I need to do other than uninstall it from control panel, any precautions steps are required before installing N360?

I will take all informations please, and use them after 12 days, well actually maybe 10 days.

Thank you.

Understood--and yes, that sounds like Standard.

After you have done the Control Panel uninstall, it is strongly suggested that you download and run the Norton Removal Tool (I provided the link in my original reply); this cleans up any "digital debris" that Windows might have left behind, which tends to cause annoying glitches down the road.

LOL on the 10 day wait; that sounds about right to me!

Good luck and keep us posted :smileyhappy:

I have installed N 360 V5 over NIS 2011 without any problems so I'd be inclined to take the easy way and try that since they have the same generation AV engines -- you would not be going back from NAV 2012 to N 360 V5 which = 2011

But I'd download and use the file tht DistEd2 gives rather than the disk you bought:

It's a one piece file and not a download manager

If you are using VISTA or Windows 7 I'd right mouse click on the file where you save if after downloading and choose Run as Adminsitrator which installs with elevated privileges and may smooth things. Doesn't apply if you have XP.

What is exactly this link that you included in your reply?

See the earlier message here from DisEd2

It's a one piece file that will install N 360 V5 Standard in the current version which is newer than is distributed on disks.

Allright so first uninstall the current version then download and install norton removal tool to remove any things from the old software. After that, install N360 v5 but will I need to put the CD into the CD-ROM to install it then install this file download or just install the file download link you sent me?

Just use the download link. The CD (obviously) stopped being updated when it was pressed; the download has the latest software updates and signatures. Limits the number of times you'll have to run LiveUpdate when you're done to bring everything up-to-the-minute current.

You'll just activate the downloaded product with the Product Key that came with your CD, same as you would if you'd installed it that way.

Ok, here I am again lol after 8 days.

I uninstalled Norton antivirus, I did the norton removal tool, then I installed Norton 360 from the link you gave me.

I activated it with the key from the CD box and seems everything going fine now but I need a few details on how this product works please. Does it automatically run liveupdate and does it automatically scan completely the pc? On and off.

Hi n1user1,

Yes Live Update will run automatically,  and the default setting for Full Scan will also run automatically when your machine is idol.

Cheers,  Dave.

Uh ok now I have a problem. I installed Norton 360 on my laptop this time but it is failing to activate the key that I have from the CD box, why? I also installed the same Norton that you guys gave me (via link) but in my previous reply I installed it on my sister's laptop and when I used the activation key it worked so why it isn't working for mine? I mentioned in my first post that if the key can work on more than just 1 installation or machine and the answer was yes, so how do I make the key activated before my Northon 360 expires in 30 days.

It may be time to contact Norton Customer Support via Live Chat http://www.norton.com/chat. They are very good at dealing with activation problems.  Please let us know how you get on.

Sorry my bad, entered a wrong letter during the typing, corrected it and it applied.

My apologies.

But anyway thanks to all for the help, will come back if I need anything.

Thank you and Merry Christmas :)

Good to know you have solved your problem.  :smileyhappy:  It may help others that have a similar problem to mark the post that helped you the most as solved.

Thanks,  Dave.
