Norton 360 restoration of files

Hello, Apologies for the length of comment, but I am not a "techy"  and being in senior years.....................
However, Have had PC's for 20 years + (all covered by various Norton security) my current being 360 deluxe.
Recently had issues with fan on PC and the repairer in his wisdom decided the HDD was at fault and replaced it (scrapping the old one) which meant the PC had to be returned again for proper repair.
Since its return, I have been unable to access "complete" documents, meaning some docs have not been updated to cloud.
Checking with cloud stats, I note there are 7 segments, (some go back to previous PC's) but certain "complete files" cannot be located.  The files (spreadsheets) I am looking for, end in 2018 although some have been backed up.
The date ties in with a change of PC (which was set up by the supplier) and until the "repair" was carried out worked successfully.
The dispute with the supplier/repairer is ongoing, (although they currently refuse to respond) but meantime i have to be sure Norton Cloud is NOT responsible for the issue.
There are various other docs etc which I have yet to find (only look when you need them) but it is odd that some spreadsheets are complete, others are not, all started BEFORE the 2018 change of PC.
Meantime, I have stopped creating or using existing spreadsheets, and reverted to pen and paper.

I did read a forum from June 2012 "Norton 360 won't restore all backup files" which was disturbing.

I would welcome any comments as how to overcome the issue, and/or steps to be taken to ensure the issue is not repeated.

Please remember I have no "techy" experience whatsoever.

Thank you.

Hi, Thanks for the info.  I use some files on a weekly or monthly basis, so might your explanation mean Cloud does likewise ??

As regards the the HDD, I was informed it had been scrapped.  The replacement had a warranty of 3 months which has now expired, and in that time i have not been able to use the PC as required.  Despite writing to the repairer on 3 occasions, they have ignored communication.
The original indication that there was an issue, came up on screen, so obviously when submitting for repair, the agent was given the detail.  However, the repair agent thought otherwise.

The main purpose of the communication is to establish if there is an issue with Norton cloud,  user error, or whether installation following the replaced HDD was carried out correctly.

Thanks again

One thing about manual back-ups. Every now & then, will find a file that has not been opened & changed for a few days but should have been as it should be updated on a daily basis so have a chance of doing there & then so only missed a couple of days. Better than not realising for a week or so.

If your repairer has still got your old HDD, (must have been OK to boot computer in first place), data on there should be recoverable. Any fan problems should have been with fan or fan controller. Was it motherboard fan (CPU etc) or power supply fan.

Thank you for your response, it makes interesting reading. especially in relation to manual back up.

Initially I set about DL files from each segment, but ended up with the same result, i e same cut off date.  Hence I have "lost" seven years data, all of which I used (and backed up) on a regular basis..  Have re4covered several pictures, and am considering loading them to a portable drive.

Have reservations about Win 11, as to me seems like BIG Brother, and somewhat intrusive and weighted by ads.  My PC was returned with a mix of MS outlook and my ISP rolled in together.
Still not if or when the repair Company are going to look at it, so just 'muddling along' a sort of wait and see.
Thanks again for the info.

I don't use the cloud back-up but do a manual backup to external usb hard drives, one drive week-end, one midweek. Don't know if Norton Cloud back up just backs up current copy of document only. I have Windows 11 running, one the hard drives is permanently connected with MS File History turned on. Settings are set to run daily but according to MS, that is every 3rd day. File History does a back up of the current documents BUT also holds all copies of previous copies, so you could retrieve a copy of that document that was dated last week, last month etc. Last time had issue with an Excel document, managed to go back to 6 months edition which did not have the issue so could amend accordingly, the current version. This document is normally changed 3 or 4 times a month which means each of these can be recovered, so if you wanted to know the state of document was, say beginning of March, you can. You have the option of restoring the current version which would over-write the current version but by right clicking the restore button you can restore to a separate folder, in my case, 'Restored Documents'. Hope this helps in doing a backup in another form, which, when set up, does it automatically, and if you want, can restore a copy of a particular 'as was' the first time file history which could be years ago.
