Norton 360 security disables during update

On about six occasions now I have noticed that while updating my norton 360, Pc security gets turned off. It does not happen all the time, but I find this quite alarming. The updates download o.k, and start applying but then I notice the norton 360 icon turn red and see that the security has automatically turned off. I would like to know what is causing this, I have no other security products installed, but I do have HP total care advisor running, although I can’t see this being a problem and like I said it does not happen all the time, and when it does it only appears to happen during norton 360 update.

Hi Yogesh, I am using version 2.5.0.5   I can’t do what you say until it happens again, and my immediate reaction would be to do as i have done before, to go offline. When the problem occurs and i try to fix it, I am asked for admin password but if I restart my computer the problem is automatically solved without the need for admin password to fix the problem. I can’t figure  what is causing the problem but I think it is happening when I disconnect from the norton server after update and install, I noticed sometimes it takes a little longer than other times to disconnect from the update server, and I’m not 100% sure but this seems to be when it is happening.

Hi Live user 51,

If you are using Norton 360 2.5, better upgrade to latest version - Norton 360 3.0 and then check for this issue. If you have a current subscription to Norton 360, you can update to the latest version by downloading the update (Norton 360 v3 Standard or Norton 360 v3 Premier). When you install the update, it will remove your previous Norton 360 product and apply the subscription information to Norton 360 v3. You can continue using the new version by just renewing the subscription when the current subscription expires. Please proceed with updatig your Norton 360 to latest version and let us know how it goes. You can use the same product key of Norton 360 2.5 for activation of Norton 360 3.0.

Thanks Yogi, I’m not sure whether I should be downloading standard or premier update though. It just says on my norton 360 box, Norton 360 version 2.0 all in one security  and gives one year protection for up to 3 pc’s per household. I’m guessing I should download the standard update, as I don’t see any mention of premier on the box. Would that be correct?. Also I see a lot of people complaining of problems on updating to version 3, I’m thinking maybe it would be wise to wait a little if there are some issues until they are resolved as I don’t want to end up with worse problems. Anyway I appreciate any advise you can give me, many thanks.

You are correct about the non-Premium version.  Premium has 25GB of online storage; standard does not.  Download the installation file.  Then disconnect for the network and uninstall v2.  Reboot your machine and install v3; it should find your present valid key and use that during installation.  Connect to the network and run Live Update manually until it tells you there are no more updates.  Reboot and enjoy.

dbrisendine,

The Norton 360 2.0 Premier version has 10 GB free online storage space where as the Norton 360 2.0 Standard version has only 2 GB space. The 25 GB space is only if you purchase a new Norton 360 3.0 Upgrade. When you perform free upgrade from Norton 360 2.0 Premier version to Norton 360 3.0 Premier, the online storage space will remain same as 10 GB. Also, there is no need to disconect the network when uninstalling v2 and installing v3 since the installation of V3 won't take more than 1 minute.

Yogesh,

I will bow to your knowledge of the product offering details; just think I know what I read.  The disconnection is just to protect the user from anything entering the system during the brief time it is unprotected.
