Norton 360 Smart Firewall versus MS Outlook 2010

Hi there,

I'm sure there is a simple answer for this:

I'm setting up  MS Outlook 2010 for the first time since installing Norton 360 on my WIndows 7 machine.  It's version 6.3.0.14.  I haven't been able to verify my incoming or outgoing mail successfully.  I thought to check 360, and this is the story:

When Smart Firewall is enabled, I can neither send nor receive mail.

When Smart Firewall is disabled, everything works like a breeze.

I was doing this from a non-admin user account, if that makes a difference.

I have tried the standard Firewall Reset, no change.

What settings can I adjust that will allow me to send & receive email? Any and all thoughts gratefully accepted.

Thanks,
pug

Welcome Pug,

360 should not be a problem - have you rebooted, a cold boot would be best? Once 360 is aware of Outlook it should make the necessary adjustments automatically.

Keep us posted

I did try a cold reboot, yes  (always my first line of defense  :)  )    Did not help, unfortunately.

Only disabling the Smart Firewall helped.

Could it be an issue with different system Users, and their permissions?   I'm stumped.  But I sure would like to get my email.

Hi puglogic,

Try the Norton Firewall Reset option in the Norton Settings, or alternatively, open Program Control, highlight the entry for Outlook and delete it.  When you next use Outlook to check for mail, Norton will automatically recreate rules for the program which should allow it to work properly.
